🎧 📺 THE WAR ON DISCO will air/stream Monday, October 30 at 9/8c on #PBS AMERICAN EXPERIENCE.
It's no secret that the backlash against Disco was racist and homophobic. People of Color and queer people came together to dance and have fun, in public, in a safe space, and the "Afraid Somebody Somewhere Might Be Having Fun" crowd hated us for it.
🎧 🎬 In 1976, #Motown writer-producer-legend #NormanWhitfield produced the soundtrack for CAR WASH and the title track was a #1 hit. The LP also won the Grammy for Best Score Soundtrack.
Here's the clip from the movie with #RoseRoyce's "Car Wash."
A big crossover hit (Number 1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Soul Singles charts, as well as Number 3 on the National Disco Action Top 30), Car Wash was the title track to Rose Royce’s first album, itself a movie soundtrack. Written and arranged by Norman Whitfield, an ex-Motown producer.
There’s a video for the song that’s tons of fun and captures the mood of the era. Check it out.
Since I've only been on here a week I'm posting a 2nd #introduction ...I'm Bryan (duh) in #Ottawa, almost 50 (embracing it), #bisexual cat dad (my baby's turning 5 in June), here for some #queer content, maybe some music (I'm a #disco and #edm fanatic), movies (keen on #horror right now), some real talk about ME / #CFS, #trauma / #PTSD / #CPTSD, and I might talk about working out and cooking (because no one's ever done that online). Here's a 30-year-old photo of me, I look EXACTLY the same now.
Released in 1984, "I Feel Love/Johnny Remember Me" is a medley of covers. It was the band's first UK Top 10 hit and features the iconic vocals of Marc Almond. The track combines Donna Summer's disco anthem with a song written for Marc Almond, resulting in a unique synth-pop sound that captures the energy of the 80s.
