Hanukkah and Christmas and Diwali are all about light, about finding and cherishing all the light we can during the time of year in which the world grows darker as the winter solstice approaches.
As I think about this, I think of what Robert Lawrence Smith says:
“History teaches us that darkness and death take different forms in every generation, but the challenge of gathering the forces of light and love to oppose them remains the same.”
This week's #AltTextChallenge is in honor of Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, that symbolizes the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance" 🪔

A silver coin would be bought on Dhanteras. New account books would be opened. The entire clan would gather to celebrate the festival. Farida Pacha writes. (Article from November 2021)
A very happy #Diwali to all who celebrate! We're going to talk a bit about the goddess Kamakhya, who plays a role in some stories celebrated on the second day of Diwali.
In this thread, we will be using the words "in some stories" fairly frequently. This is because there are over a billion Hindus in the world, and the religion has a history dating back at least 4000 years. There are therefore many denominations and many stories.

Today is "deepaawali" aka "diwaali", the #Hindu festival of lights. 🪔
Technically, today is the first of the 3-day festival, especially in South India. The middle day (tomorrow) is often considered the festival day. That's the day people (merchants more so) pray to "lakshmi", the goddess of wealth.
It is customary for people to deck up homes with lights, and maybe also light fireworks, during the festival.
Wishing you a Diwali filled with the brilliance of traditions and the glamour of modern trends! May this festival of lights illuminate your path to joy and success.
