FINAL EXAM is a movie that would never be made today. The film has its moments of suspense. It’s definitely an extremely slow boil for a slasher flick. The gym scene with its lighting and ominous feel was excellent. That death scene might not have made sense but I’ll give it points for creativity. 😂 It is certainly not the best horror you’re going to see in this lifetime.

What moments in horror films are the ones that get you grabbing for a nearby cushion to hide behind (or just have to cover your eyes and look away)?

For me, anything to do with syringes gets me (so that pit in Saw II was a nauseating experience).

Watched Total Recall for the first time for film club. Pretty good as an action film, some great lines, felt very Terminator-esque in that respect. Couldn't help thinking of Hot Shots 2 though where the body count there eventually exceeds Total Recall.

A favourite film a day for 365 days.
Bloody, scathing, deliriously over-the-top satire of late 80s capitalism. (And also unexpectedly touching.) If this doesn't quite make my Top 10, it's definitely in my Top 20. I love this film.

Tonight’s movie: SCREAM VI

(The entire series is streaming on Paramount+).

Pamela Voorhees was the ultimate pastel wearing Karen before Karens were a thing. You can bet she asked to see the manager countless times.

HALLOWEEN H20 has and amazing intro and opening credits. I loved the walk down memory lane. The soundtrack felt a little too expansive. It was trying to do too much. I suppose the whole movie felt a little forced. I really enjoyed Janet Leigh. Jamie Lee Curtis is fantastic in her reprisal of a post traumatic Laurie. Unfortunately, the rest of the film falls flat on its face.

HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS is a giant leap into absurdity. The only great thing about this movie is that it introduced Paul Rudd. In over 200 films since last year, this might have been the worst. From what I understand, I guess I should finish the series before I make that decision.

THE BEYOND has another brutal Fulci opening. The man uses gore and violence like a weapon. I believe the score is the best of his work. The movie is a series of frenetic and gory movements. The poster is also one of my very favorites. If this is a fever dream, it’s a waking nightmare.

IMHO, one of the best and collection of films is found on in the collection: WOMEN MAKE FILM

First, there's the amazing 14-part by one of my favorite filmmakers, Mark Cousins, called WOMEN MAKE FILM. Then that's followed by a number of films by the filmmakers mentioned in the documentary spanning the history of .

A picture of Mark Cousins in from of a wall with a mural saying BAP Bollywood Art Project. He wears a shirt that says 'Masulin Feminin' referring to the Godard film of that name.

ZOMBIE is one of my most adored horror pictures. It’s courageous, bold filmmaking. Fulci’s horror movies always borrow heavily from his influences while also managing to turn up the gore and violence. His stuff has a special intensity.

ONLY THE ANIMALS

Hold on to your baguettes.
The comparisons to Fargo are apt. This twisty French thriller will titillate your Audrey Tatous and Jean your Dejardin.
Will make you want to read subtitles! Je voudrais une chambre pour deux!

Can anyone recommend a fedi instance (equivalent of ), hashtag, or group (like @bookstodon) for discussing / ?

Though now I start to think about it, why should they be separate? (like MS/Apple passion for subdividing folders into Pictures/Videos/Music)
