I know Galileo/EGNOS did a recent system upgrade to provide increased resilience against solar peak activity, anticipating Solar Cycle 25, but not sure what those consisted of. Maybe @bert_hubert would know?
"Blogger Markus Johnson published a map of aircraft with jammed navigation on 15 and 16 March, claiming that at least 873 aircraft had their navigation jammed in that period."
Jamming #GPS signals from #Kaliningrad has become routine in what is meant to appear has rehearsal for an invasion of #Poland and #Lithuania. This is not a #War in some far away place.
#GNSS as affected by ionospheric #spaceweather; here is what looks -- so far -- like today's peak excitement levels, i.e. March 3rd 1700 UTC ; black-to-white=quiet-to-active, blue=no_data (nb: some scalings have been changed so this & following plots are not strictly comparable to older ones)
Highly recommend attending such an event with very humble people in a very small field. Alas mostly unknown outside of their field. And hence it feels somewhat in crowd and I had odd feelings whether I fit in. But once you get rid of that feeling you can enjoy a very open community of a niche topic often overlooked.
Finally managed to get a new bicycle after moving back to #portugal so I started doing bike rides in the weekends again.
Riding a bike in Lisbon is a whole different beast, compared to where I lived before in Germany. With all the hills inside the city. Specially if you are out of shape :)
Ridding a bicycle in Lisbon is not as bad as it was 7 or 10 years ago. There is a bit of more bicycle lanes.
And more car drivers are used to having bicycles on the city's streets. And I still have not gotten into an argument with a car driver, in the last month.
But you still need a certain attitude of: "I am not getting off the street because a car driver is pissed at me", to ride a bike in Lisbon.
We now estimate that 9 million m³ of magma have accumulated near Svartsengi since last eruption. This is based on modeling with both #InSAR and #GNSS data.
During the previous eruption the volume loss from the same reservoir is estimated at 9-13 million m³. Image is #sentinel1 unwrapped #interferogram covering 23 Jan – 4 Feb.
Ukraine-Liveblog: ++ Offenbar massive GPS-Störungen im Ostseeraum ++
@mina
Forbes: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are collaborating to tackle the risks posed by recent incidents of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) spoofing and jamming interfering with aircraft positioning data. GNSS spoofing-degraded flight systems could lead to accidents and loss of life.

In these dark days, only joy that I have left is finding good weather to go to forest. Take tea, some sweets and trusty #gnss receiver to #MAP the shit out of the forest. #openstreetmap is just an excuse to be more active and have a reason for it. Discovered unknown parts of the forest and also let other people to do the same. Great...
#GNSS Safety Improvements such as #Galileo's Navigation Message Authentication should be adopted faster, with GPS interference levels on the rise in Europe.
Interesting footage from Victor Alegre, an A330 capitain at Iberia Airlines, experiencing #GNSS interference.
> #GPS Spoofing overflying Arabia & Egypt FL360
At first comment IRS Position and GPS Position at same time: 1 degree error Latitude, 2 degrees error Longitude, 34.000 ft Altitude error causing GPWS PULL UP.
The Flight Management Guidance Envelope Computer (which can disable GNSS inputs) thinks the aircraft is too low, causing pull up warnings.
Maybe we should re-consider the cost cutting plans of removing VOR and DMEs that are going to make our Swiss and European airspace in the coming years more dependent on #GNSS, without having alternative radio navigation methods? https://www.skyguide.ch/fr/media-centre/post/106302
@rival_elf I mean it's not like with #3G or #4G where equipment to crack those costs 6 digits ...
Pretty shure a #HackRF with good crystal, maybe a #GNSS reciever for a somewhat accurate and a #RaspberryPi are all that's needed, since those together will likely have more computational power than the average core network when #2G networks were launched.
I've took an early enough train so that I would be able to attend the very interesting talk about #libcamera at 10:00
Of course having arrived at the premises I quickly scouted out the stands, and immediately met with some #Debian friends and noticed a huge, but friendly #linux penguin wearing a #froscon shirt :)
All my my navigational needs in this foreign mountainous country were easily met by my #Librem5
I regularly record gpx tracks using satellite by @tpikonen for which I've contributed the plumbing so that it could talk with gnss-share by @craftyguy
but somehow all my files from #dornbirn are empty (or rather just the xml boilerplate 😿 ) and I only noticed now..
It's awesome to see how many people work on all sorts of parts of the #MobileLinux stack 😍
The visible changes are the addition of 'Geoidal separation' field to the display data and a more compact display of various DOP values. As usual, there are also some small bugs fixed, and an update to the Gnome SDK version 45 in the flatpak package.
Quick introduction to history of #GPS and how it improved accuracy over time (by Scott Manley). Ever wondered about terms L1,L2,L5, selective availability, ionospheric model, #DGPS, #WAAS, #SBAS, #EGNOS, and how it all works? Also #GNSS#SDR#FOSS project. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJ7ZAUjsycY - comment section has interesting tidbits too.
With the power of 500$ worth of equipment an insignificant park has now proper details and correct placement. It is amazing that we can get down to 30cm accuracy #gnss location without external assistance such as #rtk another win for #openstreetmap #mapping#gis#osm
Free and global; 10cm-20cm positioning in real-time. This is the potential for the Galileo High Accuracy Service (HAS). While not survey grade precision, this provides a highly valuable option for GIS and asset field mapping. While still in beta, the early results look promising. #gnss#galileo#mapping#GIS Cover story in xyHt Magazine https://www.xyht.com/gnsslocation-tech/has-potential/
