Interesting paper from 2018 quantifying the impact of on systems.

The 🇨🇳 BeiDou system was outperforming 🇪🇺 Galileo and 🇺🇸GPS during solar flare conditions due to more frequently updated broadcast ionospheric models.

https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2018RS006591

I know Galileo/EGNOS did a recent system upgrade to provide increased resilience against solar peak activity, anticipating Solar Cycle 25, but not sure what those consisted of. Maybe @bert_hubert would know?

Do you have an old lying in the cupboard?

Dev versions of now support without a SIM card. Consumers of the MM API need some changes for this, so I submitted pull requests to (https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/geoclue/geoclue/-/merge_requests/173), gnss-share (https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/gnss-share/-/merge_requests/15), and my own simple app Satellite (https://codeberg.org/tpikonen/satellite/releases) (all 3 in different languages).

Soon it will be possible to use SIMless mobile phones for things like navigation and fitness tracking.

Thanks for this awesome event.

Highly recommend attending such an event with very humble people in a very small field. Alas mostly unknown outside of their field. And hence it feels somewhat in crowd and I had odd feelings whether I fit in. But once you get rid of that feeling you can enjoy a very open community of a niche topic often overlooked.

Thanks for this!

Finally managed to get a new bicycle after moving back to so I started doing bike rides in the weekends again.

Riding a bike in Lisbon is a whole different beast, compared to where I lived before in Germany. With all the hills inside the city. Specially if you are out of shape :)

Also managed to record the bike ride with the gps, using traces. Also :)

Picture of a bicycle. In Belém, Lisbon close to the river front.
Belém in Lisbon, by the river, on a sunny Sunday

joao,

Well that map has been getting bigger :)

Ridding a bicycle in Lisbon is not as bad as it was 7 or 10 years ago. There is a bit of more bicycle lanes.
And more car drivers are used to having bicycles on the city's streets. And I still have not gotten into an argument with a car driver, in the last month.

But you still need a certain attitude of: "I am not getting off the street because a car driver is pissed at me", to ride a bike in Lisbon.

Forbes: The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) are collaborating to tackle the risks posed by recent incidents of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) spoofing and jamming interfering with aircraft positioning data. GNSS spoofing-degraded flight systems could lead to accidents and loss of life.

The Flight Management Guidance Envelope Computer (which can disable GNSS inputs) thinks the aircraft is too low, causing pull up warnings.
