What is it with these annoying #mastodon accounts that post AI "art" under the pretense as if t is a real #photograph, along with #hashtags to lure in readers and ultimately followers?
More and more of these are popping up in the last few weeks and when checking out their profile, everything is faked. Their own portraits, all the pictures in their posts. The posts say nothing substantial than just random BS with no actual source.
Does anyone know what kind of posts the Mastodon/Fediverse algorithms favour? The traditional wisdom is that T/X favours pictures and lots of hashtags. What's the formula here? #mastodon#fediverse#algorithms#pictures#hashtags
I've been digging phanpy.social, especially the color-coded posts (very helpful for someone like me who follows lots of #hashtags). But I'm confused about whether it allows you to use a multi-column view? Still figuring things out... #phanpy
You know this #fediverse software called #wafrn you just learned about today really takes inspiration from #Tumblr when you see #hashtags with hyphens :chuckling_okuu:
That simply is just illegal in #Misskey :koakuma_giggle:
⭐(& other reaction buttons) are the❤️button but this only tells the author I like their post, nobody else.
🔁Boost🔁Repost etc moves info around. That shows something to my followers.
There is no algorithm. We choose & not some algorithm under corporate control. We choose by 🔁boosting🔁 posts and by using #hashtags. More things get seen here. Wider ranges of conversation topics happen here. It's more organic, more human.
Ch.7 #Likes vs #Boosts / #RePosts
⭐(& other reaction buttons) are the❤️button but this only tells the author I like their post, nobody else. It does not make the post more visible.
🔁Boost🔁Repost etc moves info around. That shows the post to my followers home feed.
There is no algorithm deciding for us. We choose, not some algorithm under corporate control. We choose by 🔁boosting🔁 posts and by using #hashtags. More things get seen here. Wider ranges of conversation topics happen here. It's more organic, much more human.
@mreliptik I find mastodon even harder, because if you want visibility then you need to add your own #hashtags, which can be awkward if you don't know how you want to promote myself.
Does anyone have any advice here on how to make your Mastodon less eurocentric? I do regular searches, follow people from outside Europe/US whenever I come across them, etc, but it’s quite slow, hard work. I was wondering whether there is a more strategic way - ie is there a list of instances that are not Europe/US based, and from which I could follow one person each or something? Not interested in changing my own instance, just to get more global connections. #Eurocentrism
I may be misunderstanding you or Mastodon, but initially i did also think that #Hashtags reached or went across all instances- that when you search a hashtag, you see everyone who had used it. But over time I learned (from others here) that when you search a hashtag, you still only see toots from people who are connected to you or others on your instance, not everyone on the Fediverse who ever uses it. Like: nothing reaches/searches everyone @FediTips
We're one week into 2024, do you know what that means? Time to clean up your #SNS “following” especially here in the #Fediverse.
Check the “dormant” accounts if you can unfollow them.
Check which accounts “moved”. Follow their new account, then unfollow their old account.
And maybe there are other accounts that you haven't interacted with in the past few months; and their content is no longer something that you are interested, you can unfollow them too.
If you still want to see their content, you can encourage them to use #hashtags and you follow those hashtags. Or, join a federated “group” like those powered by #Mbin#Kbin#Friendica#Chirp and #Lemmy.
Of course, depending on the fediverse platform your instance is using, there are probably better features to the content of users without seeing their content that is not of interest to you. A good example, #Firefish / #Catodon / #IceShrimp can do that through the “Antenna” feature.
Take some time to do this, and start your 2024 fediverse better than 2023.
@heliomass When I'm writing and using #Hashtags, I'm often hitting the limits of the Mastodon char count. In which I do what ever reduces the number of char
I have my feed set to English only. However, that appears to only apply to people I follow…? I follow a bunch of #hashtags and see those posts in all different languages.
Is there a way to restrict my feed to English only, regardless of whether it’s a person or a hashtag I follow?
The key to a great Mastodon experience is finding and following #hashtags you find interesting. Doing this has allowed me to find all sorts of interesting people and blogs lately. Some of my most enjoyable follows are:
Anyone notice the newsmast.community seems to have bots that boost hashtags? It’s sort of like the group bot— but why #hashtags? Might as well follow a hashtag not an account. That just ads an extra layer of complexity.
"We'll look back and say this is probably the most productive year we've ever seen,” House Speaker Joe Tate, a #Detroit#Democrat who became the first-ever African American to hold that post, told Bridge #Michigan."
