Day 177 and users are surprised that ’s decision to remove validation is causing chaos and the creation of impersonation accounts. That could never have been predicted?

Anybody else perplexed this happened? 😜

mnutty,

/9 Ah yes that looks like a winning strategy to bring back #NPR to #Twitter

#ElonMusk oozes hostility towards legitimate #NewsMedia companies. At what point do #Journalists cut the cord and say ENOUGH!

I get it's difficult to walk away from a large following, but do you really want to continue putting money in this #oligarch's pocket?

Possible news tip:
Stumbled across this. It's a list of all the properties owned by the Province of that are either up for sale, or recently sold. A big concentration are in -Mississauga. Most are not listed on the open market.
It includes one listing considered for 41 acres of ravines and parks in the Spadina corridor lands (second link below) -- and also includes the building for the Toronto Archives.

Given there is parkland on the list and land operated by the City there may be a story here for or other publications to follow-up on.

Thirty years in, World Press Freedom Day offers little to celebrate

But there seems little to celebrate, given how journalists find themselves under constant assault and press freedom is being eroded around the world. Last year was especially bleak, with some 67 journalists and media workers killed, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. That figure represented a nearly 50 percent increase over the previous year’s toll.

If these two things get implemented well, we then have people "beta test" and fine-tune them, we then "only" need to acquire the help of and in other media to continue enjoying exponential growth.

It is not easy, but it is feasible.

The debt limit sprains the both sides brain.

    Read Dan Froomkin:

"Extremist Republicans have been enabled by media coverage that tries to split the difference, and treats what is essentially a hostage crisis created exclusively by one side as a normal, two-sided partisan squabble. Indeed, our top political reporters now insist that the onus is on Biden to solve the problem."

@jon Good points regarding and media organisations. They will make or break the business model!
I don't know if twitter will survive or not, I'm happy if it does but with a different ethos (prob not with current owner).I'm also happy if it doesn't in its current form. Hope you don't mind that I tweeted it(with credit and mastodon link 😄) with whatever little reach i may have left there.

Not the odds, but the stakes.

That's my shorthand for the organizing principle we most need in journalists covering the 2024 campaign. Not who has what chances of winning, but the consequences for American democracy. Not the odds, but the stakes.

Elon Musk’s Twitter Is Still Banning Journalists for Simply Doing Their Job

Wired reporter Dell Cameron was permanently suspended Wednesday after interviewing the man who hacked conservative activist Matt Walsh’s Twitter and email accounts
