Is anyone out there running a instance using for their datastore? I am having a rough time connecting mastodon to spaces:

@dracoling

Okay, I looked at this, and this is the same info I have seen other places. I tried it again, and still doesn't work.

My creds for do work for other tools. I can read/write to the space without issue.

Hmmm..

ugh i can't figure out where the Spaces directory came from and why I have new notes that wound up in there. i don't see a reference to "Spaces" in my plugins other than Workspace Manager and no workspace named "Home" exists anyway.

any ideas? i think i created the two notes it put into those folders either by a non-existent link in my daily note yesterday because it doesn't have the usual yaml cues from Unique Note Create. @obsidianmd plz halp

This solves the 2 vs. 4 vs. 8 spaces debate: 5 spaces!

(I don't believe Kotlin devs actually do that, it's just funny to see it on the website.)

What's grabbing attention over at Xitter Spaces today?
AI Hot takes with Qanon Shaman

Remember when @MattBinder broke & pissed off ?
My hot take? Commercial AI is being trained on 4Chan and Qanon so it can create new fake conspiracies while government AI is being trained to find real ones.

Today I got to tell my students that in the bad old days we used to write scripts that just SSHed into every machine and ran sed on config files but today we had puppet and I regret to inform you that based on their facial expressions we apparently still write scripts that just SSH into every machine and run sed on config files

kkarhan,
@kkarhan@mstdn.social avatar

@kharkerlake @hexmasteen yes and I did see the latter one where the systems themselves pulled their configs when manually pushed to do so.

Which is quite odd that was made as decision before I joined said employer...

Also I hate because I use not !

Just saw someone advocating progressive movements organize on the Fediverse.

BE VERY VERY CAREFUL ABOUT SAYING STUFF LIKE THIS.

-Most fediverse tie-ins are not architected to protect you. For instance, Mastodon Direct Messages are not encrypted and admins can access them.

-Most instances are hosted by ordinary people who don't have the time, knowledge, or resources to fight subpoenas in either criminal or civil actions.

Meet here. Support each other. Cheer each other on. Show solidarity, and elevate and amplify each other.

Organize in much more restricted environments, like end-to-end encrypted messengers like Signal.

@neurovagrant Learning and running your own is very rewarding. I run for my family and personal social circle (the way social networking should be), and to connect to other Matrix and . This includes bridges to , , , , , and so on.. Matrix is a super good and flexible way to serve you and yours. We even utilize the functionality for voice and video chats.
should be way more popular. 😮‍💨

Tabs or spaces?

dportalesr,

@collin Tabs. I used to be team but then I learned about how tabs are more accessible to devs with visual impairment. Also, modern IDEs allow you to configure the size of the tabs so you could customize how the code looks (I like wide indentations) without making a single change to source files.

mattwilcox, to random
@mattwilcox@mstdn.social avatar

This is your occasional reminder:
Tabs are what should be used for indentation.

Why? Because spaces for indentation are:

  • Harder for people using assistive technology
  • Harder for people with reading comprehension issues who want more indentation.

The tab is user customisable to be any level of indentation per tab character. It is the semantically correct character.

Please; use tab characters in any public code. If you don’t like how “deep” they are; adjust your editor’s rendering.

mattcen,
@mattcen@aus.social avatar

@mattwilcox Oof, this hits hard, because my interest in completely agrees with you, but this is such an unpopular opinion that making such a transition will be a long and tricky process (not to say it's not worthwhile), and I'll have to work out how to configure various linters and code formatters to do the right thing.
Have you found code formatters can usually be configured to use tabs without too much trouble?
(In particular, I've not yet worked out if I can make autopep8 or similar go against its grain and not just do 4-space indents.)

Is the future of microblogging divided between Twitter, Mastodon(/Calckey/Akkoma/etc.) and Bluesky in the future? It certainly looks like it.
