@RookieNerd Nice! One of the problems that kbin faced, when people started migrating massively from Reddit a few months ago, was that the flag instance, kbin.social, couldn't bear the load of the newcomers. So it's cool to see other instances joining the #threadiverse!
And in my opinion, having a kbin instance makes total sense for a hacklab.
Three months ago I submitted a post to the #Rust sub-reddit called 'Building a better /r/rust together' wherein I hailed #Lemmy as a fitting successor.
Today we have 3 moderately active Rust spaces on the threadiverse. To counteract community fragmentation we need the ability for #ActivityPub groups (Lemmy community or #Kbin magazine) to follow other groups.
Help needed from fedi-curious Rust developer out there: Implement FEP-d36d for Lemmy!
@RookieNerd it’s a way for sub-communities within an ActivityPub instance to federate with other subs of the same kind.
If mysite.com/c/art subscribes to yoursite.com/c/art and a new post is made on yoursite, that post will be federated to mysite as well, as the same post rather than a separate cross-post as is now the case on the #threadiverse if I want to share some news about the fediverse with the different /fediverse subs.
It makes distributed common-topic conversation less fragmented.
Unsure if this fits here, but the tool's been quite fun to look through. It lets you look at specific Fediverse software and instances, see graphs for their growth. And there's even a whole section for the Threadiverse (Lemmy & Kbin)
Kbin Cafe had a brief issue between early yesterday and now that impacted newly registered accounts or current users attempting to log in. We apologize for the inconvenience and this has been resolved!
Yeah good point by @cendawanita about permissions (or lack thereabouts) for #kbin et al to scrape the #fediverse and put posts/toots into magazines. It feels like so many #Mastodon admins are blind to how the fediverse beyond Masto software & the Masto API actually works.
Seeing such folks write lengthy posts about defederating Masto instances running Vyr's search patch while the rest of the fedi has #FullTextSearch and the #Threadiverse scrapes it with next to no backlash. It's like folks don't know that there's a bigger problem with #ActivityPub re #privacy and #safety than Website Boy's latest antics, and we need to push for #FediverseSafety and privacy flags at a ActivityPub protocol level. Until then, everything is just a non-binding, non-enforceable agreement about cultural norms that there's seems no consensus on; and definitely no focus on minority safety, rather features some will claim are wanted by a majority.
Still in the process of disentangling myself from #facebook, but getting there. Reddit will likely go as well, once #lemmy picks up a bit more steam for niche communities.
But how about search and email? Password manager? GImme your best tips for leaving Google behind as well.
@protonvpn please create an account on #Kbin or #Lemmy#threadiverse
I know lots of Reddit users use the Proton subreddit but given everything they’ve done and your support of Mastodon, I’d say it would be good to have an account on Fediverse Reddit alternatives.
From the AMA (ask-me-anything) with the creators of #Lemmy —
I assume this is a request for a user to be able to block everything from a whole server instance — all communities, all users, all posts, all comments, etc.
I just noticed that Mastodon web is identifying Group accounts in the UI and happy to see it.
With the #Threadiverse expanding, I appreciate knowing that I am replying or interacting with a Group account, where my response may end up in front of audiences I wasn't expecting.
Hoping more third party clients will start adding this as well.
The identifier is included in any Account element returned in through the official API.

FediDB is a tool to track the size and growth of Fediverse platforms and instances (fedidb.org)
