Something "new" to explore on the workbench today: a 1995 #Apple#Macintosh#Performa 630 in the "DOS Compatible" variant. It’s a bit of an oddball machine from Apple‘s otherwise quite bland (in my opinion) beige era. It has both a regular 68040 Mac and a full 486/DX2-66 PC inside. Should even be capable of running Windows 95 alongside MacOS 8! Thanks to a very generous donation from @markuspooch I’m going to get to play with it. Thank you! #InTheLabDoingStuff#RetroComputing#VintageComputing
📚🔑 This is one of the first USB flash drives - the IBM DiskOnKey - with a capacity of 8 MB, equivalent to over 5 floppy disks 💾 And yes, it still works, we tested it 😍
Watching #LGR's bubblejet video makes me sad I can't get cartridges for my DesignJet 488CA anymore. Oh the fun I had unclogging cartridges with my vacuum cleaner and the simple adapter I made!
Just a block of wood with a hole the size of the vacuum hose and a piece of foam with a slot for the inkjet cartridge. Worked amazingly well to unclog a cartridge.

September 2024: https://vcfe.org/
New #Insentricity post: Transforming Apple Internet Router into a Linux daemon.
It took until the middle of April, but with the help of several people I was able to put together a Docker container image that can be used as a sort of Apple Internet Router daemon. The config can be passed in entirely from outside the container and no pointy/clicky is required inside the emulated Macintosh.
Sharp's innovative pocket PCs ran on BASIC, allowing users to write programs, load from tapes, and even check email. They connected to phones, enabling journalists to read email from payphones. Equipped with serial ports, they facilitated data transfer with printers and computers, and some even had built-in printers! 🖨️
Back in the mid-to-late 1980s, the Commodore Amiga was, generally speaking, superior to Apple systems and PC-compatibles, which were often mocked by Amiga owners. 😉
When I was a youngster in the late 1980s, I formed an Amiga game dev team with 2 friends.
Before making games, we started by trying to sell game music that used minimal RAM, made with our music editor SIDmon.
To promote our game music, this energetic music module was composed by our musician Ramon Braumuller. The file, including tiny sampled sounds, is only 22 kilobytes.
