Anyone got an old 486 or pentium 1-3 pc they wanna get rid of? My kid is really interested in playing with old computers

@notsle

I have a 90's system or two, in basement.

Desktop- I don't think this works - likely drive issue - drive never cleaned off, so would have to remove. I probably have an old empty small drive that can go with it.

Laptop- it probably works but cleared off, DOS installed. Pretty limited. I don't remember specs.

Old company systems given to me after depreciation ran out.

Haven't tried anything with either for 10 years or more.

No OS for either.

@notsle best I could offer is a Mac Portable, but that’s not x86 architecture.

Also, I don’t know if it works.

Also, last I knew, the hard drive wasn’t good.

And I’m very doubtful the battery still works.

Happy birthday to the #AppleII computer! Can you spot all the easter eggs I've hidden in this photo?

I've always mourned Commodore's demise. 😢 In an alternate universe, Commodore could have been what Apple is today.

@metin After Jack Tramiel left there was no visionary left who ruled Commodore. Apple struggled after Jobs left, because there, too, no visionary was left. Successful companies exist because they are ruled by dictators with a vision. Failing companies, too. But the reverse doesn't exist I think: Successful companies without visionaries. If ideas get too diluted by too many in power, a company might exist and survive, but won't be making breakthroughs like Commodore did in the early days.

@root42 Agreed!

What was the last printed magazine article to publish detailed plans for building your own computer, and when was it? 1990s? Early ‘80s? I’m talking about plans with detailed schematics and PCB layouts, like the Mark-8 or COSMAC ELF. #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

ITS versucht zu booten. Die Hardware scheint zu funktionieren, irgendwo klemmt jetzt das Betriebssystem.

Und für @gaston wenigstens ein bisschen Licht!

I know this is a long shot, but do any of you have a hotsync cable for a m100 or m105? My Palm won't sync reliably and I think the cable might have a break in it.

Found a listing for a Vintage Apple IIc Personal Computer with monitor, printer, and more. It boots up! Price is currently at $302. Auction ends on May 28th. I bet this ends up getting pretty pricey, but definitely worth keeping an eye on: https://www.shopgoodwill.com/Item/199793185
