Great question in the @glitchdotcom community forum: What skills do software developers have beyond writing code?
To me, it's mainly about the ability to step back and evaluate how your decisions and your behavior affects the world around you, through empathy.
And you really have to be empathetic to yourself as well; know the value of your time. Opt in for simpler, more straightforward solutions. Ask for help when you need it.
#WebDev people, please don’t use #accessibility overlays when making your site. They create more problems than they solve for people with disabilities and they’re not enough for #WCAG compliance. Accessibility can’t and shouldn’t be automated, you should actually care, solve it at the source and listen. Here’s why: https://overlayfactsheet.com/#what-is-a-web-accessibility-overlay
Just in time for the weekend, very excited to announce the arrival of Enhance Styles 5.0, a major upgrade to the configurable styling library built into every @enhance_dev project.
Full details in the announcement blog post, but I'll be sharing some highlights here as well 🧵
How safe is it to use external images on your #website? I'm aware of the possible #tracking but is there anything else?
Should I just proxy them through my #backend? #programming#webdev
so the new array method are apparently confirmed for ES2023 and I just realized want I really really would love is a method to filter AND map in one step. #JavaScript#webdev
It's sad how often Firefox is marked as unsupported in this video. I'm so annoyed of Mozilla that they don't even seem to care anymore.
But Firefox users are probably the most loyal browser customers on this planet and most of them will probably use it even if many pages are broken because nobody wants to wait another year of Firefox catching up on basic features.
Had the opportunity to play with the #Laravel Mail Facade and #Mailjet today at work. Didn’t do any mail stuff via #PHP for many MANY years now. It’s just satisfying how easy and seemless everything works.
Every time I dig deeper into Laravel it gets better and better. I'm glad I decided to go Full Stack again. I loved my years as a main frontend dev, but I feel much more complete when I can do and control every step.
I still love to chat with the backend devs at work about backend stuff and I have so much more to learn. 😍
I'm really glad my workplace enables stuff like that. In other companies, my abilities were always rather limited from above.
Surely the world of #WebDev doesn't need ANOTHER #Podcast, right? Right??
Who are we kidding?! 😆
Of course it does! Introducing:
Just a Spec, a podcast about the protocols, the projects, and the people who make the open platform of the Internet possible. From your friends @jaredwhite & @ayush
You can have reliable unit tests that don’t test integration, or you can have integration tests with random flaky failures. There is no other option. This is web development in 2023. #webdev
aria-owns allows developers to restructure the parent-child relationships in the accessibility tree. This means that screen reader users may experience a different semantic structure and meaning to other users when they navigate and interact with content using their screen readers virtual/browse mode.
