Great explainer of how ‘policy’ of tax deductions has transformed houses into a commodity instead of homes people can afford.

Record high tide in Maine washes away 3 historic fishing shacks
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/maine-ap-history-national-weather-service-facebook-b2478494.html?utm_source=press.coop A record high tide in Maine washed away three historic fishing shacks that had stood since the 1800s and formed the backdrop of countless photographs

This is just the start of global sea level rise, you ain't seen nothing yet...

@kim_harding people in Maine could do what the people in Bude, Cornwall are doing. Organise adaptation themselves. Our government is not going to help us.

Good to see this reported at last. To use 1.5°C as a viable goal is disinformation. “James Hansen, Columbia University USA, published a paper with colleagues in November which claims temperatures are set to rise further & faster than predictions of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). In his view, the 1.5°C target is dead.”

Nonetheless, I do know people trying to protect Wombat State Forest (designated National Park one hour west of metro Melbourne) are in court to force VicForests to stop destructive clearing there. Yesterday the judge ordered them to stop in one area. Hopefully they don't have to go to court for every logging coupe, one by one.

Understandably, not many have read the Executive Summary of the IPCC "Climate Change 2023 Report". Its 81 pages list facts, explanations & statements of "levels of confidence" in their forecasts

That our politicians haven't read it, nor delegated that task to their minions is obvious & criminal

Every page tells us

  • There is no alternative but to cut emissions immediately
... failing to do so will overshoot the 1.5 degree warming ceiling

Former Ambassador, adjunct professor Gregory Andrews has started a hunger strike in front of of Parliament House Canberra, calling on govt to take urgent action on .
“The world is on the brink of climate collapse. Billions will die from heat stroke, starvation & fossil-fuelled disasters in our lifetimes if we don't take real, fast action. But Australia is still digging up coal & chopping down forests.”

Emeritus Professor Jem Bendell with the University of Cumbria in the UK:
“It’s time that more scholars back the activists who are being proven right on the climate. It’s ridiculous that bravely accurate activists like XR's Gail, Roger and Clare now face prison, while their loudly inaccurate critics in the climatology profession face just another payday.”

An open letter from 70 scholars from 16 countries has been released that supports climate activists and explains how unhelpful it has been for climate scientists to have undermined them in recent years.
