"According to economist Steven Rattner of Morning Joe, the United States has now had 26 consecutive months—more than two years—of unemployment under 4%, the longest stretch of unemployment that low since the late 1960s.
Rattner pointed out that immigrants have helped to push U.S. growth since the pandemic by adding millions of new workers to the labor market."
@wdlindsy "...supply side economics has never worked, but it has become an article of faith for Republicans"
This is why GOP administrations drive thé US economy into a ditch every time.
Keep it up, we cannot afford to lose the Senate (and yes, I donated).
Via Kyle Griffin:
Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown hauled in more than $12 million in the first quarter of 2024 for his re-election bid — breaking an #Ohio record, according to his campaign.
@GottaLaff Donated again today. Recently Sherrod Brown participated in 36 roundtables around Ohio. His goal is to expand benefits to vétérans exposed to toxic chemicals. This is just one of his many initiatives.
Brown walks the walk!
A tin of crushed pineapple, a packet of marshmallows and a hefty dose of pistachio dust and this delicious Georgia salad could be yours for lunch. 🤮
Optional extra: an entire tub of "whipped topping", whateverthefuck that is.
Americans: shut up about beans on toast forever.
@Henrysbridge@fkamiah17 It's called Cool Whip in the US. Made of hydrogenated fat, high fructose corn syrup, and a bunch of milk by products and preservatives. 🤮

A lot of our generation believed we were entering into an era of peace and love. How naive it sounds now.To a degree I feel I share some blame for the world not changing, feeling I could have done more. Although active politically, was distracted by family/career. I lived most of my adult life in blue states. It made me a bit complacent. During Obama years I felt great progress was being made. A storm was brewing, I had no idea it could lead to today's crisis.
@Snowshadow@dbc3@WmShakesp3are I blame myself for falling into that trap. As an activist I was exhausted from dealing with the evil and outrages of Bush/Cheney years. When Obama won felt I could at last relax and recuperate a bit. Then I saw the Tea Party revolt and the rise of lunatics like Sara Palin. The signs were all there. I was probably guilty of some magical thinking at the time, perhaps hoping that extreme right wing would burn itself out, not grow stronger.

The lesson here, as far as I am concerned, is to pay attention no matter how rosy things appear. And take action when action is needed.
@TucsonSentinel As US healthcare worker for over 40 years I second that. A lot of older Americans need a neutral advocate to help navigate overly complex systems. They tend to give up.
As a healthcare "consumer"-do I really have a choice but to consume- I am pretty unhappy with my insurance company this morning. Their website kept rejecting my input, giving me error message each time. I finally reached a live human she blithely told me it was too late to fix my request.🤬
Complaint sent. Aargh!
"Biden says he wants the fed govt to pay for the reconstruction of the bridge. Congress will be asked to act.
The 35W bridge collapsed over the Mississippi in Minnesota on 8/1/2007. The House voted 8/3 to spend $250M to rebuild the bridge. Vote was 421-0. It passed the Senate by unanimous consent after an amendment was adopted by unanimous consent."

It's a💙state, Rs will...
2019: TFG signed a $19.1B disaster aid bill. House Rs blocked it 3X.
@KimPerales The Key Bridge was part of our interstate highway system. Biden is right. It must be rebuilt with federal funds.
Surely republicans, with their devotion to business and commerce, would not block funds for this critical infrastructure, or would they?
I remember when people like Rubio and DeSantis voted against congressional measures to help northern states with infrastructure devastated by Hurricane Sandy. They had their greedy hands out whenever their state was struck by disaster.
Bringing god back to public school in Ohio?
"Opponents have also documented several instances of teachers and administrators promoting LifeWise to students, either by allowing LifeWise volunteers to visit classrooms, hosting schoolwide assemblies or advertising the program in paperwork sent home to parents — actions that, according to some legal experts, could violate the First Amendment. https://www.yahoo.com/news/ohio-group-bringing-god-back-150042786.html
@DemocracyMattersALot , "His walk appears wide-based and he has developed a swing of his right leg. He appears glued to the floor when he 'dances' for his audience. If caught on camera standing still, he appears unnaturally immobile."
Putting the whole gait issue aside for a
moment it's really, really bizarre that we have a presidential nominee who dances for his audiences. We have normalized so much outlandish behavior.
Bret Favre scandal drags on. He took $5 million from Mississippi welfare funds 5 yrs ago. Money slated for the poor built a soccer facility at his daughter's school.
Tape exists of Favre asking officials for funds, seeking advice on hiding source of money. No state/federal entity has charged Favre or anyone else w/criminal conduct. He paid $1 million per court order, now owes another $750K.
Welfare fraud is a felony. Anyone other than a very rich white man would be facing prison. #privilege
During his State of the Union address, President Joe Biden implored us all to “be honest, the threat remains, and democracy must be defended.” Republicans are prepared to play offense — to put the fate of our democracy on the docket.
@Saltssaltgirl I volunteer at a food pantry. In the two years I've been there the number of clients has increased by 50%. Most are families. The need is great. 😔
