NaXi Troll Succeeds

'It started when Twitter personality Yashar Ali decided to rile up his over 700,000 followers ... by posting a video purporting to show that it had suddenly become trendy on TikTok for young people to read quotes from Osama bin Laden's 2002 "Letter to America"
People took it seriously. Multiple news outlets rushed outraged responses.
...
the story was swiftly debunked by tech journalists who pointed out that the trend amounted to just a few trolls.'

"It says a lot about the failures of our media that a few random attention-seekers on TikTok have caused more of a freakout than this lengthy list of commonalities between bin Laden and Johnson, a man who actually has the power to put his anti-American vision into action. It's just much easier to sell a story about wayward youth than it is to explain why the nerdy-looking politician with the good hair is actually plotting our collective destruction."

promised cheaper, better, even “revolutionary” auto insurance after Tesla started losing sales because of high premiums. But understaffing left some customers waiting weeks or months for compensation as they continued making payments on crashed cars. https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/tesla-insurance/

Teslas do 3 things better than most cars: accelerate, crash, and spy on their owners.

And now with his new insurance's pay-through-the-nose option, your collision claim is processed some time after you make the final payment on the car, depending on how obsequious you are to Musk on naXi.

When I was a kid, dad, who was in the Marines, still had his M1 rifle. He took us to a rifle range to teach us how to fire it. Before we went, he reviewed gun safety.

One of the most important lessons he drilled into us was to NEVER assume a gun is unloaded. Always check.
Even if someone gives you a gun and says it's unloaded, always check. Even if they say they already checked, check it yourself. When you get a gun, check it. Period.

~40 years later, that advice came in handy.

A few notes about the prev post.

I ran out of chars or I would have said that dad HAD BEEN, not WAS, in the Marines. He was honorably discharged years before I was born. Grammarians will appreciate the difference.

Also, not to belabor the point, but, after the sentence
"Even if they say they already checked, check it yourself."
insert the sentence:
"Even if they checked it right in front of you, check it yourself."

Having a gun pointed at you is really quite a moment. I've only had it twice. Once when I walked out of my work and into what looked like a swat team standoff with an armed man.

Imagine about 10 cops 100 feet away, guns drawn and aimed at the perp, who was directly in front of you. And as you realize how close you are to death you hear the one-way door behind you lock shut.

Fortunately it was a training exercise. But those seconds seemed like days.

Late 90's. It was the back parking lot of a building by Six Flags in Arlington TX. Our software company shared the building with other tenants, including some authority. Not regular cops, but an agency I didn't associate with violence. Cannot remember which one any more. Anyway, they occasionally did exercises in that parking lot. Until then, they were unarmed exercises. I learned to park elsewhere.

2nd failure of starship

Gulping > 40,000 pounds of methane & liquid oxygen per second, 397-foot-tall, 11-million-pound rocket.

The upper stage continued to climb, nearly at the end of its burn when contact lost 8 mins after liftoff, indicating Starship wasn’t flying as planned. A camera view tracking the Starship booster shows an explosion that suggested the vehicle failed at that time. The rocket's altitude was 91 miles, 148 km.

Starship’s self-destruct system fired destroying it, failing to reach target 150 mile

The engine failure led to > than minute-long tumble, which kicked off just after the rocket’s Starship upper stage & Super Heavy booster failed to separate.

Was the flight’s explosion result of aerodynamic forces shearing the vehicle apart or the FTS?

Flight termination systems are explosives built into key areas of rockets, triggered by hardware failure detected. A safety & licensing requirement if a rocket veers off course.

This after 63 failures noted by FAA on the last launch.

No trust.

Yet the virus is mutating constantly, and there is no guarantee it won't mutate to affect whites preferentially or more severely.

LiberalEd,

@Bossito
Agreed. The term 'risk group' is not appropriate with AIDS. 'At-risk behavior' is appropriate, because the issue was how AIDS was acquired (needles, unprotected sex, etc), not your race or even sexual orientation.

The issue with COVID is how hard it affects various demographics when acquired, since there is no way to avoid exposure. Thus if whites are being less harmed now, that doesn't mean they won't be more harmed by a newer strain later. Everyone knows COVID mutates continually.

Tesla getting owned by Swedish workers isn’t the story.

The story is that 90% of the Swedish workers belong to a union

And only around 11% of American workers belong to a union

The story is the message

What the Swedes have done by blocking delivery of Teslas will reverberate worldwide with workers showing the power of collective action.

Values like treating all people with respect? Values like teaching that all people have equal dignity?

Probably everyone you pass on the street is in some way objectionable to your morality. Isn't your job as a Christian to love them regardless? Or is that what you say to take the high ground?

If you can use your religion to justify targeting them for their sexuality, what's to prevent them from doing the same to you?

I just keep wondering: what is the media's plan? Do they really think they will survive a Trump second term with any remaining reputation intact?

If so, do they think Trump will overlook their current tame criticism?

Or do they think that once Trump is in power they will convert to total subservience and flattery, and that will soothe him?

Or is it just: maximize profits until we die?

People who have participated in local school affairs for years have seen what this right-wing group that is masquerading as “for liberty" is really up to and they're not fooled. And they have seen enough, hence the results we saw Tuesday.

Banning books is not "liberty" in any sense of the word nor is trying to erase the existence of LGBTQ people, Black history, or Jewish history, no matter how many times that group says so.

Voters Tell 'Moms For Liberty' To Eat Shit:

@TonyStark

Whenever a group puts words like 'Liberty' in its name, its mission is probably to oppose liberty. It's even more likely when they put 'Mom' in there too. 'Mom' makes it sound ridiculous to most people, but it's sweet music to conservatives. They just love names with Orwellian right-wing dog whistles. They rarely contain words like 'equality' or 'fraternity'.

"Cognitive decline worsened with coronavirus disease 2019 severity and was concentrated in participants reporting post-acute sequelae of SARS-CoV-2"

I'd say yes. They seem to have included people with the full range of COVID severities and found the worst declines went with the worst severity.

Another Q. Is "post-acute sequelae" just their way of saying 'long COVID', or is it any adverse symptom following the acute phase.

I agree with all of it but the overly dismissive attitude towards clean code.

It's one thing to overdo it, but another to deliberately ignore it. Find a happy medium.

Also, develop hygienic coding habits, so clean coding comes naturally. Also, do a good cleanup after main coding is complete.

I used to tell my junior programmers that they should code as though they were going to have to debug it a year after they forgot it. Because they probably will.
