This morning I was reminded of a problem I once had getting a run of screen printed t-shirts in the 1990s.

At the time, I was the merchandise officer for ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha, the fan club.

We decided to do a limited run of black Disaster Area t-shirts, with black print (makes perfect sense if you've read the books).

We got artwork and I sent off the order. I added a note making it very clear that we wanted black print on black t-shirts. I added that we knew

RPBook,
@RPBook@historians.social avatar

it wouldn't be very visible, that was the point, and that we'd done this before.

I was excited when they arrived, and intended to buy the first one myself. They had white print, and they looked awful — like film negatives.

I rang the printer, who said I could send the t-shirts back or pay for them. But they flat out refused to do what we'd asked. I sent them back and got the refund.

It was a real shame. They would have looked great, and I'm confident they would have sold out quickly.

@RPBook@historians.social avatar

#Parenting question. We have two kids. The 16yo is #autistic, we think the 11yo is #ADD.

When one of them does something wrong and we don't know which one, they will both claim it wasn't them. We find that upsetting, because one of them is lying to us.

We don't want to punish. We want a conversation about what happened and why, and an apology.

But it can take days of asking before one of them admits it, and that time is horrible. How can we get whoever did it to admit it sooner?

RPBook,
@RPBook@historians.social avatar

@AshleyMarineP that sounds like a good idea. We'll give it a go, thank you.

popey, to random

Poor planning on my part means my car battery wasn’t completely full this morning, and I need a decent charge in it. So popped to the local Instavolt, conveniently located for a quick McCafe breakfast ☕️🥔

The display of a charger showing 71% state of charge.

RPBook,
@RPBook@historians.social avatar

@popey does the battery graphic not change to show the level of charge?

I'd expected the blue fill to be a representation of charge level, but it appears to be the same height on both. That seems really odd to me.

AUTISTIC/ADHD AUTHORS

Having chatted with several autistic I have a theory that autism writes better in a unique story structure. I would love to talk about this more, especially with ADHD writers, as I think they may blend into this structure.

Would you be interested being in a neurodivergence writing group on Discord?

I promise, your manuscripts are NOT a mess.

RPBook,

@NeanderthalPride I'd be interested, as long as non-fiction writers are welcome.

I've seen some people suggest that it's out of touch or naive for Americans to call for a and shows we aren't listening to people in the Middle East. But these calls for ceasefire resolutions are coming directly from the real, thriving Palestinian community of , even in the face of violence.

https://www.texasobserver.org/palestinian-austin-stabbing-hate-crime-ceasefire/ via @TexasObserver

I wonder if people said the same thing about the calls to boycott apartheid South Africa? I definitely see it with modern , even though that movement stems directly from a Palestinian call-to-action.

@palestine

RPBook,

@BruceMirken @kitoconnell @TexasObserver @palestine yep, I remember people in the UK saying that we shouldn't boycott South Africa because it would harm Black South Africans.

Pondering some form of e-Ink and am looking for recommendations. Ideal featureset:

Screen: ~7" - don't like holding a 10" iPad, and an expired 6" ereader seems a fraction small.
PPI: >~300
Wifi
Ability to sync to/from CalibreWeb

I'd rather not pay Amazon for their products so that probably excludes the Kindles unless they are outstandingly worth it. Thoughts?

RPBook,
@RPBook@historians.social avatar

@kyle Kobo currently have a sale on their ereaders:
https://uk.kobobooks.com/collections/eReaders?filter.p.m.custom.screen_size=7%E2%80%9D&filter.p.m.custom.screen_size=8%22&sort_by=manual

The Sage, Libra, and Forma should all fit your requirements, but I'm not sure if they'll sync with Calibre Web. They'll definitely sync with Calibre via a USB cable.

Dear macOS,
Never in my life have i ever wanted to "mirror" a display when extending is one billion times more convenient. Please stop assuming that every new display I connect is meant to be mirror. Please stop automatically blasting my private notes and conversations on the projector every time I happen to give class in a new classroom. Just treat new monitors like new monitors.
Thank you.

No idea about Word, though. I much prefer LibreOffice.

As I've mentioned before, I never really boymoded. I started buying women's clothes right when I decided to transition, and I started wearing them out very quickly. That being said, I stuck to only androgynous stuff that could pass as unisex if you don't look too closely.
Today marks one week since I came out to my first class, and today I'm going to have that group again. So I'm going to school with much more unambiguous clothes, no baggy jumper to hide my breasts, an intermittently visible bra strap, and full face makeup.

I just found part of an old sheet.

It might not look like much, but it's had quite a life. It did good service on a bed for a while, then got turned into a rough tunic for a fancy dress party that @RPBook and I went to as "I'm Brian and so's my wife." Some years later, the tunic was cut in half to make mess-catchers under weening toddlers' high chairs. At some point, I cut sewing pattern pieces out of it. Now, it's gone in the dog's box for cleaning up her occasional puddles.

RPBook,

@JetlagJen I'd completely forgotten that party 🙂

I'll not bother you with my thoughts now, but feel free to DM me if you'd like to discuss and/or bounce ideas around.

I'd love to see more indexes like that one, and for them to be better known.
