Inside this building is the apparatus needed to control a natural siphon that is capable of directing the flow of water through aqueducts between reservoirs. The dam pictured gives the necessary height to initiate the siphoning action.

@DemocracySpot Thank you! I think it’s a great idea, so I try to put some effort into it, and it’s sometimes a nice place to add extra detail for the curious that maybe not everybody cares about. I don’t know how many people actually benefit from it but I’m glad the community as a whole promotes the practice.

@DemocracySpot Cool, ok, that’s good to know, thanks.

I do not like audio books.
My focus leaves & before long, I realize I have no idea what’s going on. Also, I don’t find listening to a book near as enjoyable as reading it, something gets lost in the process.

All that to say, I’ve been listening to this one. Granted, it’s taken me 2 times of checking it out at the library. These are all true stories that cover many subjects & the endings all make you think, which I love. I highly recommend.

Even if you hate audio books 😉

@Likewise @bookstodon I can’t argue with that in general but I don’t think I would have gotten through Moby Dick without one. Call me Ishmael. 🤷‍♂️

I got out with my camera for the first time in a while yesterday, so fresh material for . This is one of three dams on site made with dry-fitted field stones, and it's been holding the water back for well over 100 years. New England soil is adept at growing rocks, and one of the things we're famous for is the rock walls of similar construction that run for miles through the woods, all that remains of farms long lost to memory.

Here's another one, from a bit of a different angle. I used an old 50 mm lens on 39 mm of extension again, and stacked 15 frames, concentrating on the central part of the flower only. For scale, these flowers are about the size of a quarter.

I have yet to do a so here's some people who I enjoy seeing in my timeline.

@ashqinmoe Unique atmospheric shots of Northern Ireland.

@andrewbriscoe *Stunning shots of the PNW from his backpacking adventures.

@TimKStanton Another outdoorsman who operates way closer to (my) home.

@TishaPaints Professional artist who defaces her old law books, much improving them.

@Evewriter203 Shares great art with her own poetry.

@Jaycee Wonderfully moody shots of Acadia.

    Appreciate you all!

    African Violet # 1

This is another focus-stack--one of the first I ever did so I don't remember all the parameters, except that it was done with a Kiron 105mm macro lens, which was a heavy, awkward beast of a lens to use. There were probably 20-30 images taken and stacked. A nearby window was used for lighting.
