People who are like "The migration to Mastodon has failed!"

No it hasn't. I literally migrated to Mastodon from Twitter, and I don't use Twitter anymore, but I do use Mastodon every day.

I call that a successful migration.

Susan60,
@Susan60@aus.social avatar

@rasterweb It takes some people a long time to make that final break. Some maintain a presence on 2 or more platforms. Some discover (consciously or not), that they are addicted to the outrage & angst of the other place & that it’s too “quiet” here. It’s a process that some go through more quickly & smoothly than others.

3.5 years of constant caution and sacrifice, withholding dinners at restaurants & concerts, and I let one professional event encourage me to take needless risks. I spoke in a room with 80 people without a mask. I asked the event planner to have air filters in the room, but she said "their effectiveness for Covid prevention is limited," which is, of course, BS, and that should've been when I withdrew from the event. I let my guard down, and now I have my first infection. Be safe out there!

Susan60,
@Susan60@aus.social avatar

@augieray Ugh! I wish you a speedy & full recovery. The fact is, we never really know whether or not we’ve made a full recovery, except when it’s clear we haven’t. You’re only human.

Really impressed by the number of people on social media who turn out to have expertise in both deep sea engineering AND modern Russian political dynamics.

If you want to connect with others around my age try following/tagging , though if you just feel old you'll be welcome too 🤣

I'm late self diagnosed in my sixties.

I worry about how I'll cope when I get older and can't be self sufficient, have less control, have less space and can't keep my routines.

Do you think about that too? I'd love to connect with others here or in real life in UK.

@meredithw @Pathfinder @dbc3 @doggle @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd Thank you! I’ve always empathised with “outsiders”, anyone who doesn’t fit in for whatever reason, & now I know why. 😏

Susan60,
@Susan60@aus.social avatar

@Pathfinder @dbc3 @doggle @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd I’m recently diagnosed ADHD & self diagnosed with mild autism. As an older female & a people pleaser, I’m an expert masker, to the point that I don’t have much confidence in my own diagnosis, in spite of a lot of research. I keep withdrawing from NT people but lack the confidence to claim membership of the ND community.

@Pathfinder @dbc3 @doggle @actuallyautistic @actuallyadhd Thanks Kevin. I think that “cycles” concept is useful. It’s definitely not a linear process!

If the past few years have taught us anything, it's that:

  1. Poverty is a policy choice.
  2. Workers keep America going, not billionaires.
  3. Corporate profits don't trickle down.
  4. Health care is a human right.

The time to act on these issues is now.

I am sick of this attitude people have, not all just a lot ... Like grow the f up !

A customer called me for an update on his restoration, and he gave me his name. I searched my database, nothing under that name, never in over 30 years ... I asked for a job receipt number "you never gave me one!" ... I asked if he might have left it under a different name, that was like lighting a fuse with him ... He started to abuse me and threatened me with legal action and hung up ... not 2 minutes later his wife called and So I asked her name ... Typed it in when she was ranting at me ... I said "hang on one second" ... I found your clock it was left under your name, I'm assuming that's your maiden name ? not your husband's name. ... I suggested it would be nice to get an apology from you and your husband ... That lit the fuse on her, and she went BANG at me ... I am really hating retail these days

This world needs a chill pill ... Hugz

PSA Reminder to the Autistic Community to TRUST YOURSELF in Medical Situations!

I knew something was wrong, my relative looked white with grey lips.

We called an ambulance.

The paramedics arrived, all efficiency, but then seemed to change tune and decide everything was ok!

You know when professionals stop listening to you? And when you try and persuade them the less they listen? That.

We were told a cup of tea was all that was needed...

    About to give away more than 2300 VHS cassettes that dad had managed to collect.

    If you're in Naarm and want some, let me know. Must be picked up today. Lucky dip, you must take at least one box, with about ~100 cassettes per box. Western suburbs.

    Spent the day at a beautiful non-binary wedding, and had an incredible conversation with a 94-year-old grandmother who confidently told me "even in my day gender was bollocks" so that's reassuring.

    Susan60,
    @Susan60@aus.social avatar

    @LaCrecerelle I don’t have an issue with being a woman, but I deeply resent the way that perceptions of gender have been used to limit & control women. Maybe that’s the problem. By not identifying as female, a person rejects any attempts to control them using gendered norms. And by not identifying as male, a person is rejecting the idea that being male gives them certain privileges.

I’m descended from John Small and Mary Parker so when I also explain my experience as a Chinese Australian no wonder it breaks people’s brains… it’s no wonder I don’t fit in around here.
