How to note Sunak’s election announcement here? Getting drenched in rain was symbolic & symptomatic; tragically a child died in a mudslide in Yorkshire the same day.

Will this election be decisive from a climate policy point of view? Labour will be better, but how much exactly who knows, given scrapped pledges. Of course i am hopeful for Green party gains. But actual positive excitement and energy, again rallying everyone to make this a etc? sadly, no.

@Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

@pvonhellermannn I honestly do not know how labor could even consider the position of turning this country around from its demonstrable position of weakness caused by the Tories and the destruction of our economy. The cost of repairing the damage is running into the trillions that is how badly the Tories have done and how unlikely labour will be able to turn this around especially while the Tories and the client media will be sniping from the sidelines from the get go...

Lets be absolutely clear - at the centre of the infected blood scandal, as so many other 'scandals' involving institutions riding rough-shod over the interests & well-being of ordinary people (see the posted list & additions in my timeline over the weekend) is one thing:

People in power lying to those whose lives have been ruined.

LYING... not making mistakes, not misunderstanding... LYING.

This is the culture that infects our political & social 'elites'; being (very) comfortable lying to us!

Vonskinnback,
@Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

@ChrisMayLA6 these privileged smug lying arseholes in positions of power have done so much damage that I would actually support a life sentence for anybody caught doing it, their lies over the post office, Hillsborough, Brexit, immigration, Covid, the EU & everything else that has actually led to the pain, suffering & the deaths of innocent people should be met with the harshest & most aggressive punishment available, strip them of their wealth to pay for the damage they caused with their lies.

@log @courtcan @Adam_Cadmon1 there is already a move to make cars unaffordable so you have to lease or hire them, electric cars have remote kill switches & require a connection to the manufacturer (via app) to use/charge, we have been forced into a rent culture where you own very little or no assets, what a grim reality capitalism has created without true oversight from our elected officials, we even struggle to own our own data, that is why the rich hate the EU...

    @DrALJONES it was just another weapon used by Israel to hurt Gaza without looking like they're trying to instigate genocide, they are using lies & starvation to kill as many as possible because they believe it will allow them to continue this shit show for longer as this kind of shit is difficult to prove, plus once the lie has been told & the damage is done, they never have to answer for it & if they do they just plead ignorance or poor intelligence from a chaotic situation...

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @DrALJONES I honestly can't believe the international community acted without evidence in the way they did but then again I also remember that Tony Blair and George w Bush murdered 350,000 Iraqis based on absolute lies & bullshit, so this definitely isn't the first or last time we will see innocent people killed by bad faith actors. At this point in history I would happily criminalise lying in public office with a minimum sentence of 100 years if proven guilty, I am tired of lies hurting us...

    I love to hear stories from back in the olden days. Tell me what it was like in the 1990s.

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @mkandle @NormanDunbar @MissingThePt the 90's was a treasure trove of music & mad times, it felt like a really positive & upbeat era (at least for me) it's was the GenXers dirty little secret & if you ever catch a GenXer with a cheeky smile on their face you can be sure we are remembering something from the 90's...

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @NormanDunbar @MissingThePt Electronic dance music. You always had Jamiroquai, he was excellent for a bit of funk fusion, daft punk were also a 90's group...

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @NormanDunbar @MissingThePt fair enough, it was a cracking time for electronic music, hip-hop, rap, bands like pearl jam, soundgarden & rage against the machine, trip-hop became a thing with wonderful results like portishead & massive attack, bands like counting crows & Weezer, Radiohead & the verve, even Pink Floyd popped out the division bell mid 90's. But I guess that was just me, I would have named some EDM groups but I get the feeling that's not your bag...

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @NormanDunbar @MissingThePt the 90's was jam packed with incredible music, but I suppose you had to be there to really enjoy it...

    @prema @mkandle @NormanDunbar @MissingThePt it definitely feels like the 90's revival has begun, there is a lot more dance music hitting the mainstream again, accidentally turned on Radio 1 the other night & before I knew it I had been listening to it for about an hour, so it has gotten my 90's spidey senses tingling, not to mention the fashion, I bought my nice some cracking purple distressed Doc martins, lots of baggy jeans, flairs & black band tops everywhere...

    Over the last 3+ decades, I've watched the Republican party bring fascism to the brink of victory again, a mere 60 years after its defeat in WWII.

    Aided, hand-in-hand, by the post-communist, mafia-state apparatuses of Russia & China - countries the GOP spent the last 100 years using as bogeymen against US voters who wanted better services from their own national government - & by the multi-national corporations that funded the GOP & were rewarded with dismantling of anti-monopoly & FCC laws.

    Sunday raspberry to for putting a MAGA interim nomination success at the top of the 8am BBC news bulletin on a Sunday morning. Instant off-button. For 4 yrs the British State Broadcaster inexplicably put the sayings & doings of the Orange Fascist top of the bulletin during his presidency. Enough already. You might claim it is "news", but when you bill it at the top of the bulletin, you transform it into acclaim. And you know it.

    @fkamiah17 when it comes to Islamic terrorist threats they're willing to do anything to protect MPs, when it comes to far right extremist terrorists they'll do anything to risk the safety of MPs to push their agenda, that is a fact, the media, Johnson, UKIP, EDL, Tommy two names, the Tory party, the Brexit party, Britain first all threatened to hurt, intimidate & kill anybody who got in their way & even Johnson told MPs to get in line if they are afraid, it's what the dead MP would have wanted.

    Vonskinnback,
    @Vonskinnback@mastodon.social avatar

    @fkamiah17 yep, an extremist who was radicalised by the Tory party UKIP, the EDL and brexit to the point where he was so enraged by their rhetoric and the media's rhetoric he decided to gun down an MP in cold blood because she was against Brexit, something that turned out to be built on nothing by lies & propaganda by serving MP's who are still holding the highest office in the land.

    Elon's "extremely hardcore" toxic work culture means people are forced to take Adderall without a prescription to meet their workload. Just ask SpaceX employees.

    "Some SpaceX workers resorted to taking Adderall to keep up with the pace of work at the company's launch facility, and others found themselves falling asleep in the bathroom during long workweeks, a recent Reuters investigation found.

    "Travis Carson, a former SpaceX worker at the company's facility in Brownsville, Texas, told Reuters some workers took Adderall — a stimulant designed to help people with ADHD improve their focus and concentration levels — without a prescription to keep up with the pace of work."
