Reason 14,456 Mastodon is better than Twitter: Yesterday after Iran launched its massive missle and drone strike on Israel, Twitter was awash with FUD about how Biden had started WWIII.

I’m not kidding, the entire site was one conspiracy thread after another that world war 3 was about to start. Air traffic closed over Washington DC, Netanyahu had left Israel in the only jet allowed to fly there, accompanied by spurious screenshots of air traffic radar. It’s still happening NOW.

Utter trash.

I'm gonna try and post more fun stuff here because more fun and less gestures broadly is really what I'd like to see out of this place.

But by golly ever since being enlightened to the term (and phenomenon) weak induction, it's been stuck in my craw like nothing else. I'm just seeing it happen over and over and over again.

And I'm starting to wonder how much the prevalence of that phenomenon might contribute to the political polarization we're experiencing. Maybe it's starting to crack.

@RickiTarr Useful for people who want to dedicate themselves to each other. But should not be a "need" or requirement. DOES need to be de-mystified. To have additional concepts of "relationship" and "family" able to fall under it, rather than be "protected" as if sacrosanct. (You know, like what already happened to the institution many times in the past millennia.)

Maybe make them not cost so damn much. 😝

Still a part of the "de-mystifying" I guess...

Well, last night's thread sure was (and continues to be) a wild ride.

I'll be blunt here: please believe me that I'm experiencing problems frequently enough to make me not like this place. And please try to understand how a repeated onslaught of suggestions on how I myself need to solve those problems doesn't give me much solace.

If I have to be responsible for managing this with whatever tools or strategies you throw at me just to be here happily, that's not something I need in my life.

@TechConnectify As you’re the reason I’m on mas.to to begin with, and as a huge fan of your content, I do hope the positives outweigh the negatives.

Obviously as a nothing-level social media social media user I find it hard to even mentally picture the experiences you’re having. I do think as the platform continues to grow and mature, moderation tools will as well. (If only due to necessity. But I think moreso as developers figure out clever and workable code that is deemed acceptable.)
