If the whole Windows Recall thing scares you and you are looking for options: For many people Linux just does the trick. If you need a browser, some office stuff, maybe a bit of image/media management, Linux absolutely got you covered. It probably will be annoying or something might be broken but that is the same with every operating system.
But before you install something, maybe have a chat with someone who knows a bit more about it to help you navigate the choices and to ensure that your workload is actually supported on Linux.
But it's no longer an OS just for experts. You can do almost anything graphically and a lot of shit just works.
@tante I'm fairly impressed at the work that's gone into making games work - I do have a variety of games that I've purchased through Steam and it looks like a fair number of them would be OK on Linux.
Other concerns that I have include Zoom videoconferencing and tax software.
I'd really like to avoid having to move to Windows 11 after Windows 10 patches stop happening.
@poligraf@palestine FYI for people looking for more information specific to the Stanford student movement, the students appear to be using the Stanford Against Apartheid in Palestine Instagram account from January:
That page has some posts about current (April 28) daily protest content, so somebody is clearly updating that account. I'm unable to find other current social media pages or a web site for the current student efforts.
@poligraf@palestine And consistent with a national pattern of administrative hostility to students calling for justice, Stanford University is threatening arrests.
Ah OK, I was reading it with a browser that has cookies disabled and it worked. I've now added a non-paywalled version of the same story hosted on MSN.
As an update on this, my wife received additional information from a Stanford Jewish Voice for Peace member:
"Students have been occupying White Plaza since [April 25]... Community members can follow updates, see daily programming, and see what students need by checking @stanfordsjp and @sit_in_to_stop_genocide on Instagram. Reach out directly if you can support by providing an educational workshop or security!"
The right kept their eye on the Supreme Court prize for 50 years. They waited that long to get a majority that would do whatever they wanted. Unfortunately, it paid off.
At least some of the left doesn’t seem to be nearly as focused on the Supreme Court as the right was. These are lifetime appointments and there is no quick fix. We have to wait it out and keep our eye on the prize, like the right did.
I wrote about Easter falling on the same day as #TDOV last week, when it was just a twinkle in conservatives' eyes.
At the time I didn't think it would take off bc it was too dumb. As usual I overestimated just how dumb and hateful this moral panic is. #trans#news#easter
A top European auto safety body is releasing new rules that will require physical buttons and knobs for key vehicle features to receive a full five-star safety rating. I’d like to see the same in North America.
@parismarx I refuse to purchase a Volkswagen ID.4 (VW's electric car offering) in part because they've put all of the control functions onto the touchscreen, with GUI design apparently by a lunatic who delights in making functionality impossible to find. We rented one and I found it nearly impossible to adjust the climate controls, among many other issues.
Whoever came up with this trend of putting a 17-inch TV screen into the middle of every new car needs to be fired, IMHO.
Never mind at the first sentence is bullshit—they’re running because they’re the incumbents and what the hell else are they going to do—the entire Biden-Harris statement in the Washington State voter pamphlet is unfathomably badly written.
I’ve seen better in high school student council elections.
