I detest Trump & his incessant lies beyond words. He's a loser who knows he can't accomplish ANYthing w/o cheating.

New campaign finance reports reveal paid $20k to stage a rally of fake striking auto workers last September, with non-union people holding up ‘Union Members for Trump’ signs. Russian election officials register Putin to run in March election he’s all but certain to win

Under a constitutional reform that he engineered, Putin is eligible to seek two more six-year terms, potentially allowing him to remain in power until 2036.

And this is the type of election that wants for America.
Absolute power
Decades long terms
Seal Team 6 acting as security for rivals....😂 😂 😂

Lets make sure he's locked up before he gets a second chance.

The pinnacle of "return-to-office" ("RTO") stupidity is requiring people to be in the office some number of days per week, with first-come-first-served hot-desking.¹ Leads to people ostensibly in the office "for improved collaboration" now sitting at desks spread all over the office space, and then using their remote collaboration tools from the office. Including video calls.

Managers implementing this sort of policy deserve a metaphorical bucket of ice water dumped over their heads.

bigheadtales,
@bigheadtales@mstdn.party avatar

@xahteiwi
My office instituted just that, and there's a desk shortage to everyone rushes on "desk day" to try and reserve preferred space for the next week (location, end of row, better monitors, etc).

In my case, I deal with a satellite office in California, my boss in San Francisco, and partners in the APAC region. The two teammates that work out of my office (if I see them at all) and I share no common work, region, or hierarchy.

All to protect the CEO's real estate portfolio.

    So, there’s two ways to look at the verdict of $83 million…

    If he is, as he claims, worth $12 billion, he can write a check and walk away without even feeling the loss.

    If he’s not really rich, he’ll be taking the money from his election campaign and the while begging for money from his gullible followers. (And they’ll gladly empty their savings accounts for their Führer)

    The fact that business owners fought to keep remote work from being more widely adopted is a fucking tragedy. Remote work solved so many problems i.e. less greenhouse gases, less traffic (which means less strain on infrastructure), more money circulating in smaller towns, less wasted time commuting for employees (which also means less money being wasted on gas) etc. But nope, we gotta justify these buildings somehow.

    bigheadtales,
    @bigheadtales@mstdn.party avatar

    @FeralRobots @BlackAzizAnansi Let’s be honest, universities in the US consider the actual education part of the business to be a cost center while mandatory residence and NCAA sports to be profitable.

    And it’s all about profit.

    If only they could find new ways to cut more education or squeeze even more tuition and student fees while cutting more classes and teachers.

    I see a lot of folks making the argument that yeah, a lot of layoffs are happening, but it's due to irresponsible hiring. And yeah, it's true that you shouldn't hire a bunch of engineers that aren't doing anything; which usually isn't the case.

    I think people don't understand just how unbelievably BAD the tech grift is right now for people in leadership positions. It's not just that they hired a lot of people, it's that they also tasked them with working on the wrong things.

    bigheadtales,
    @bigheadtales@mstdn.party avatar

    @hbuchel
    Big tech and media laid off over 350,000 workers in 2023, not because the companies were losing money on whole.

    These layoffs were entirely to please Wall Street billionaires who demand exorbitant profits and massive employee firing.

    These mass layoffs directly impact customer service, system support, and the quality of service.

    But it makes the billionaires happy.

    bigheadtales,
    @bigheadtales@mstdn.party avatar

    @ramsey @blogdiva @hbuchel
    That very much might be the case. In the case of my friends getting laid off is that it is far more often that older workers are being laid off and jobs opening up for a level below what they had.

    It's a way to lower salaries and get rid of older workers at the same time.

    AT&T is sending out letters warning they want to kill virtually all landlines (and perhaps related data circuits where fiber is unavailable) across essentially their entire coverage area throughout California. This would have devastating effects. Related CPUC meetings will be taking place through March.

    Landlines provide crucial services for individuals, businesses, and other organizations in a wide variety of situations -- not just emergencies when cellular and Internet service tends to rapidly fail, but also for vast numbers of people in areas with poor, unreliable, or in many cases (even in large sections of major cities!) NO cell service, NO fiber, etc.

    Landlines often provide the only available communication in a wide variety of security and safety situations, from elevators to interior spaces of all sorts where cell service simply doesn't work.

    Many disabled and other persons have crucial equipment that depends on landlines. Often they are not tech-savvy and do not have friends or relatives to help them through forced technology changes.

    AT&T has been shirking its public safety responsibilities for years, while still leveraging their effective monopoly on services in so many areas.

    Their new effort must be stopped. I'll have much more to say about this as the situation progresses.
