I'm kind of obsessed with the #fediverse

I've been working on @pixelfed almost every day since April 2018

I've learned a lot, and am still as dedicated to, and excited for the fediverse as I was when I first started Pixelfed

I know I've made some mistakes along the way, but y'all have been quick to point em out and help me grow and fix issues accordingly

This really is a labour of love, for the people.

Y'all keep me energized with your feedback and positive vibes. I really appreciate it. ❤️

I'm honestly considering a paid verification program in Pixelfed to help sustain the project long term.

It would be a centralized list, and would be present in clients, regardless of server.

A blue checkmark would not only help our project financially, but would also provide a trusted visual mark of verification.

Thoughts?

✨ Spammers beware!

@pixelfed now disables atom feeds and both post/profile embeds for spam accounts, and hides their profile unless you are logged in!

This will not affect new or existing users that create a post that is flagged for review by Autospam unless the post(s) are marked as spam by a human admin.

tl;dr: pixelfed now limits access to human reviewed spam posts and accounts to deincentivize SEO and other forms of spam.

Last month, https://fedidb.org observed Misskey's flagship instance report 3.9M new monthly posts, more than double the 1.7M that Mastodon's flagship instance.

Is this a growing trend, or could Misskey growth be due to spam?

I'm resurrecting my old FediDB developer tools to do some testing in Pixelfed, will be open sourcing the redesigned testing service soon!

This will make ActivityPub development much easier, and being able to test against other implementations without having to setup test instances is a game changer.

Kbin has more active users than Lemmy!

While it's impossible to get an accurate user count across the fediverse due to several factors like spam signups, downtime and inflated metrics, it is possible to filter out inaccurate results using std dev and other metrics.

https://fedidb.org aims to be the most accurate source of fediverse network statistics and data, and I think we're on the right path! #fediDB

I didn't create @pixelfed for myself, and despite my best intentions, I can be wrong sometimes.

My recent post about app onboarding has received both positive and negative feedback, and I'd like to explore alternative solutions to this with feedback from @liaizon, @feditips and anyone else before we proceed.

Pixelfed is for the people, when you speak we listen, and we strive for community consensus despite my own opinion.

Just a friendly reminder, Pixelfed hides following and follower collections by default and provides an empty outbox.

What this means is remote servers or entities who consume or scrape these endpoints will be met with empty/useless data.

Pixelfed has always done this 😁
