#Meta should just offer people in #Europe (& the rest of the planet) a simple option: either opt in to have your personal information sold to advertisers, or pay a fee to use #Facebook, #Instagram, #WhatsApp & #Threads.

It works for #YouTube (I pay them to avoid ads), as well as other news organizations. It’s really that simple.

@john Yeah, but then the ads would suck & no one would click on them, resulting in advertisers leaving & the company losing money.

Basically Twitter ads & Instagram ads when Apple blocks their tracking behavior. 😂

Did you know the @pixelfed app uses a deduplication algorithm on the hashtag feed?

Early on we identified a pattern of accounts posting the same content on their Mastodon/Pleroma account and again on their Pixelfed account.

Nobody wants to see duplicate posts, and I’m proud of the complex yet elegant solution I shipped!

It’s the small things and attention to detail that set us apart 😁

I know you are super busy @dansup, but is there anyway you could add location search feature when uploading pictures to within the (currently in beta) Pixelfed iOS app‽ I think every app uses this now.

Here is a compare & contrast so you can see what I mean (using Pixelfed on the web verses the app).

It’s not a priority as you have a zillion other things to do, but it would make it easier to find travel photos in the app. Thanks for reading!

Making cities less car-dependent is only possible if the city has a cheaper metro 🚇 alternative than a car.

So after being alerted by @tallship / @tallship & @silverpill that my ActivityPub settings were a bit wonky, I decided to take some time & investigate.

After further analysis, my settings were a bit wonky, as the site could no longer ping user handles (weird, I know).

I decided to embrace the spirit of Serenity / Firefly & quit “fiddling” to find out what the issue was.

Opening scene from Serenity MovieI deactivated & reactivated the ActivityPub plugin & installed the NodeInfo(2) plugin (both are by @pfefferle).

So now, the site can ping users when mentioning handles, but I am still unsure why the site was not working previously or if the underlying issues were addressed.

It's been over a month since Rep McGovern started his discharge petition to bypass Mike Johnson in the US Congress and get the support package for Ukraine rolling again. In the meantime, the House has mostly just vacationed, while russia bombards Ukrainian cities and energy infrastructure. The petiton is up to 195 of the 218 names needed for majority.

It's not just Johnson. Most of the representatives don't care.
