It is hogwash like this rant on design which show that it was a mistake to ever give designers control over colors on the web, and CSS is awful, and we should go back to HTML v1 and let users set their own colors.

@danlyke The very first source cited to evidence that pure black causes eye strain makes no mention of pure black causing eye strain. It is also a PR piece from an optometry interest group from 2015. I stopped reading.

The first meeting tonight intersecting urban growth with historic preservation was filled with angry uninformed people blurting out half baked rants. The meeting right after across town on the same topic was filled with insightful and curious people asking thoughtful questions about growth strategies. Guess which meeting had the NIMBYs?

Interesting, plan to make it easier for bicyclists and pedestrians to access area in our town. I'm curious how many folks are "thinking outside the box" vs. just sidewalks. 🤔

Today I learned about W State Rd 84, near Fort Lauderdale Florida. As one wag commented, "it looks like a road sine".

I wonder what the lane width vs general travel speeds on it are, and collision rates, especially vs the sorts of straight rural roads that often connect these sorts of places...

@danlyke @chrisjrn @bitprophet If this renovation has been pushed since 2005, certainly there must be a traffic study or other data findings to report? What are the safety issues exactly? The reporter leaves the reader to dig through public docs on their own.

@danlyke I see this comment all the time: "well nobody bicycles there, so why do we need a lane." Well, lobsters don't frequent boiling pots either unless humans put them there.

If NY Attorney General is able to start enforcing her judgment as soon as next week, don’t expect Tower to top her list. Why? Because as recently as August ‘23, Trump reported Axos Bank still has an outstanding loan on that property for “over $50,000,000.”

eleland,
@eleland@social.coop avatar

@GottaLaff Thanks for sharing. How much research into the loans, partnership interests, legal claims, etc against a property does a judge typically do in this process? With large land / business assets untangling this would seem to me to take a lot of time and make it difficult to grab quality assets in a hurry?

A local right wing asshat has threatened to “lose respect” for me, and warned that “you don’t want to experience that.” He is upset that I shared data showing US citizens commit far more violent crime (absolutely and per capita) than undocumented immigrants. The far right is completely spineless when confronted with reality.

COVID is a serious vascular disease. It just so happens that it's transmitted by our respiratory system.

Please be safe and take care of each other.

LOL... some startup has decided the best application for AI is to make sure it has absorbed every last bit of information on building nuclear reactors...

"custom-built AI search platform for the nuclear energy sector. Designed to improve efficiency, modernize the regulatory approval process and streamline workflows, Neutron, trained on millions of pages of documents from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), marks a pivotal step in advanced AI search capabilities. Beginning with Neutron, Atomic Canyon envisions empowering a "nuclear regulatory renaissance" – a new era of nuclear innovation fueled by AI and a more efficient data navigation process."

Texas Governor Abbott signals that he may (will?) defy the Supreme Court order regarding the border.

    https://www.houstonpublicmedia.org/articles/news/border/2024/01/24/475398/governor-abbott-signals-potential-defiance-of-supreme-courts-border-ruling/

In 1830, Andrew Jackson, as president, refused to heed a Supreme Court order regarding the removal of Native Americans from Georgia.

Jackson's refusal gave us the Trail of Tears.

    Jackson remained popular.

The similarity: Both defiances are deeply racist.

The difference: In 1830 only white men could vote.
