AI sparks countless questions – social, ethical, economic, and even culinary!

Our proposed law classifies technologies based on risk:

⚠️ Ban on AI systems that threaten citizens, like social scoring or specific facial recognition.
⚠️ Strict regulations for high-risk AI in healthcare, education, and critical infrastructure.
⚠️ Additional transparency requirements for generative AI such as chatbots and image generators.

The proposal is in its final stage. Agreement is expected by year-end.

@scanlime diode.zone is awesome. Your stream archives (the "weird embedded PC from the 90s" in particular) are a great inspiration for me as they show an unfiltered view on hacking which is a road with many dead ends and setbacks. The fact that you show the entire thing not just the end result is very valuable for me to combat my anxieties and keep chugging along. Thank you for that.

@Spitfire @borari The unreliability of chatgpt and its propensity to generate lies was discovered on day 1 of it becoming public. OpenAI did not pull the plug. They likely did not care. Making them accountable is basic justice.

LOL. Linux user uses Nouveau drivers instead of the binary Nvidia https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ubuntu-linux-install-nvidia-driver-latest-proprietary-driver/ drivers. 🤣 You need the official driver for gaming, ML, CUDA, etc. There is no alternative.

@nixCraft you can laugh but switching to nouveau from NVIDIA blob driver has fixed suspend on my workstation. Believe me, unreliable suspend is way more frustrating than low fps.

Seeing news articles along the lines of "we need to take back pride from radical activists."

Like, dude, we are celebrating the anniversary of when butch lesbians, trans women, drag queens, homeless gay kids, and queer prostitutes chased cops into the Stonewall they were kicked out of -- AND THEN TRIED TO SET THE PLACE ON FIRE. With the cops inside.

I'm trying to figure out how that wasn't radical activism, but trans people asking for human rights is too radical. Fuck that.

The science is clear: burning existing & already planned fossil fuel reserves means global warming will exceed 1.5°C level & possibly 2°C.

This would break the commitments that every country made in the 2015 Paris Agreement.

Choices:

(1) Expand fossil fuel infrastructure & let the globe continue to rapidly warm.

(2) Expand fossil fuel infrastructure & rely on capturing emissions in largely unproven ways.

(3) Invest in proven alternatives to rapidly reduce & then phase out fossil fuel use.

@rinze the last statement from there CEO is comedy gold:

"""
Shortly after posting on its Instagram about Tessa, NEDA disabled comments on the photo. In a statement to the Daily Dot, CEO Liz Thompson said that Tessa is an “algorithmic program … not a highly functional AI system,” and that over 2,500 people chatted with Tessa before yesterday’s reports of weight loss recommendations.

“We are concerned and are working with the technology team and the research team to investigate this further; that language is against our policies and core beliefs as an eating disorder organization,” Thompson told the Daily Dot. “We’ve taken the program down temporarily until we can understand and fix the ‘bug’ and ‘triggers’ for that commentary.”

republic.red

Small 4 member "free speech" instance. Owner is an anti-vaxer conspiracist.

Instance states its for conservatives who are marginalized online for their views.

"Republic is an English speaking, conservative friendly Mastodon instance created for people who believe they are marginalized online for their political views."

"Republic.Red is intended to be a place where conservative ideas can be expressed, discussed and debated without being censored. Some people want to characterize any conservative idea as being hateful which isn't true and only prevents open discourse of ideas. At Republic we believe that open discussion and discourse leads to the best outcomes, instead of silencing one particular viewpoint."

Other 3 members are a bot that posts all of Ron DeSantis's tweets,

a News alias that the instance owner uses to post news articles from?

and a bot that posts a daily bible quote.

Server Rules of course have had the part against Hate Speech / racism / homophobia / transphobia / ableism / / casteism removed from the copy paste starter kit.
