Third attempt at making soup tonight was a definite improvement on previous week's. Still a little bit watery but less bland as I added some mixed herbs (and lower in salt and ultra processed ingredients, which is the goal). Also I knew the discounters were cheaper than supermarkets but Lidl is currently about 50-60% the price of Tesco and Asda.

@pwaring My goto for thickening up soups is corn starch slurry. Just mix one or two table spoons corn (or different) starch with an equal amount of water and stirr it into your soup.

Just be careful to not overdo it. I once made a very thick soup, that completely solidified after cooling down 😄

@pluralistic I learned about the tragedy of the commons in economics classes at university. Strangely enough, none of these neoliberal fuckers said anything about the background and alternatives.

I`m pretty sure some economics departments are more ideologically blind/stuck, than most religious institutions.

Challenge: How do I eat a whole pineapple in two days? 🍍 😋
Pure luxury from the Zero Waste Box: a pineapple, lots of grapes and tens of mandarins. It's hard to believe that used to throw this away (which is now banned in France). A box in our costs 3 EUR for 2 kg of "ugly" or overripe vegetables/fruits. The very ripe pineapple smells delicious!

Wanted to scratch a shooter itch by installing Star Wars Battlefield II again.

First off: What is an EA App and why will EA always suck so hard? I know the answer is money, but man. They're on an extra level.

Secondly: Got into a match filled with cheaters. Killed any interest in playing.

Thirdly: Uninstalling from said EA App doesn't work, had to delete everything manually and then nuke the EA App.

Bravo EA, bravo. Still top 10 worst companies ever.

@Imperor That`s why I rarely even buy games from AAA companies anymore. They enshittified everything about gaming so much.

Always-on in singleplayer, annoying launchers, incredibly invasive anti cheat measures... that suck at catching cheaters, chat bots instead of support, ...

Indie Games are so much better about all of this!

    Wow, I never expected 7 Days to Die leaving Early Access after this long! Personally, I don't think the game is ready for that yet. The Fun Pimps have a lot of unearned confidence that their game is ready to be considered stable enough for an official 1.0. I am being a snarky git and perhaps this 1.0 launch will all work out for the best. Time will tell!

    @WanderingInDigitalWorlds Fundamental engine problems often are really hard to fix. Its possible they simply dont have anyone with the necessary skills, or there is so much legacy code stuff, they can`t fix stuff without breaking other stuff.

    There never was a fifth and probably never will be.

    To me, Logitech mice are the most obvious cases of planned obsolescence.

    From 2010 to 2017, there was a thing called that we Aseans started as a grassroots movement. We were all bloggers from across, well, or South-East Asia.

    Some of us joined together to produce one of the best multi-authored regional blogs. We talked about our cultures, write about what makes the region awesome. As well as, try to address the oftentimes silly and sometimes heated debates.

    It's all gone now. Forgotten. The blogs dead or offline. We all grew up, got busy with our personal lives, and moved on separately. And the important reason? We lost interest in it as we started to see ASEAN was, is, and will never be for the grassroots.

    That was the end of what was once a vibrant grassroot ASEAN Citizens effort. We did it all voluntarily. Without a single recognition from the top-down organisation that is ASEAN.

    I had friends from , , , , , , , , and yes, even from (). (I'm from the .) It was fun. It was not tiring at all. It was because we saw a bright future for ASEAN, and we believed in it completely.

    But today? ASEAN is still a top-down organisation. They kept trying to get the grassroots involved, but they are always failing. Why? Because it is a top-down organisation, as simple as that. They will never understand until they shift their mindset and approach to bottom-up.

    Who is ASEAN really for?

    (P.S I want to restart this grassroots movement, but I just no longer have the spark. Give me a very good reason why I should give it another chance. Or, at least, guide the new generation.)

    @elomenelomina Auch als Hörender ziehe ich es häufig vor, Sachen nicht hören zu müssen, sondern lesen zu können.

    Auch wenn man im nachhinein spezifische Infos aus einem Podcast will, ist die schriftliche Variante Gold wert.

    (1/2) Ein Freund arbeitet als Heilerziehungspfleger. Bis vor kurzem hat er in einer Feriengruppe für Menschen mit Behinderung (MmB) gearbeitet, die für MmB Ferienbetreuung und Pflege angeboten hat, damit die pflegenden Verwandten die Möglichkeit haben sich für ein paar Wochen ohne Pflegestress zu erholen.

    Die Gruppe wurde nun geschlossen, weil sie ein finanzielles Verlustgeschäft war.

    I found this german "Spätzlesspresse" in a giveaway box at the side of a street.

    It is used to press a viscous batter into boiling water to create "Spätzle" a south german egg noodle, but can also be used for squeezing lemons or mashed potatoes.

    My discipline, anthropology, is not seen as a “growth" discipline, and departments are being closed down. But the world needs Anthropology and Anthropologists now more than ever!

    Here are my 8 reasons for this:

    In this world, only things, that can be monetized directly, have value.

    Culture, empathy or beauty are only seen as "useless" and burden, if they don`t turn a profit.

    I love quantitative statistics, but it only feeds into this narrative, because everything, that is not easily quantifyable, is just kicked out the dataset, to avoid "muddling" the model. Thats where anthropology and neighbouring disciplines are immensly valuable.
