Rarely entirely serious. Fond of otters and dogs, scarily obsessive about music and old videogames. Boosts absolutely are endorsements; it's why I boosted them. He/him.

Always baffles me as to why vintage cars don't require tax or Mot. That aside this is a lovely vignette of a story. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/crgpjpr35nko

hedders,
@hedders@mas.to avatar

@emsquared How odd. Tax I can sort of understand inasmuch as there will presumably have already been a load of tax paid on it. MOT does seem very odd as that goes direct to safety.

I still find it kind of fun that EU people are getting a better version of Windows than anyone else.

@ianbetteridge I wonder if it’ll work by IP, locale setting or where you got your licence?

Ok, this is pretty funny.
From Josh Gauthier (@JG_Writer on twits)
Let's try this. Give me the opening line of a book, but add "and then the dragons arrived."

In the beginning, the universe was created, and then the dragons arrived. This has made a lot of people very angry, and been widely regarded as a bad move.

@markwyner hah! This is exactly how we got our dog. I came home from a business trip and found out that Mrs had been on the Facebook page of a shelter and, well, basically our dog was arriving Friday.

That was 5 years ago. He’s been my fuzzy little wingman ever since.

Most people radically underestimate the role that misogyny played and plays in online far right radicalization, and Gamergate was the critical turning point for the far right using online misogynist culture as an on-ramp into the far right.

    I could and did read whatever I wanted when I was growing up. There were no developmentally suitable limits to my library card. And nobody checked what I was reading. I think that was a special exemption my library made for me

    The only time it went a bit wrong was when I read The Exorcist at 11. It was rough. You could possibly argue that Jaws was a mistake too because Benchley was a terrible writer

    But I think I was enriched by Salinger, Vonnegut and Conrad even if I lacked a lot of context

    hedders,
    @hedders@mas.to avatar

    @kierkegaank @jinxhart I read The Exorcist when I was 18 or 19 and I think I didn't sleep for a week it scared me so much. I'm impressed that you coped with it at 11!

    hedders,
    @hedders@mas.to avatar

    @kierkegaank I can only imagine. It's not great literature by any means, but those pages and pages of conversations between Karras and the demon haunted me for a long time!
