When a man undertakes to create something, he establishes a new heaven, as it were, and from it the work that he desires to create flows into him. For such is the immensity of man that he is greater than heaven and earth - Philipus Aureolus Paracelsus (1493 - 1541)

If you're involved in electronic music-making and you're not white, please DM me on here.

I've just been watching loads of #SuperBooth footage and was aghast at how overwhelmingly white the whole thing is. I've seen more diversity at EDL marches.

So, I'm gonna try and do something about it. And the first thing is organising.

The clouds for the win

The people that vote for the Oscars, don't look like the people that watch the films. The Academy is much older, whiter, and dude-ier*. Oscar winners, are the inevitable outcome of Oscar voters.

The question isn't "Has the Academy changed enough to where filmmakers from marginalized backgrounds have the same chance to win an Oscar yet?"

The question is "Will the Oscars have the same relevance to society 10 years from now, that they do today?"

β€œThe more you understand about US consumer toy culture, contemporary US sexism, and the Barbie toy... the better the Barbie movie was for you. Men who knew more about sexism and the Barbie toy, enjoyed the movie more.πŸ‘πŸΏβ€

Just listened to a long information heavy rant from my wife about how terrible the movie was if you understand anything about sexism and the history of feminism. So, I am guessing this trend (if true) peaks at a pretty low-level of knowledge about sexism and then reverses.

I always think of Margaret Cavendish as the first to write a science fiction novel - The Blazing World (1666).

If you got upset at me for pointing out that more people died of Covid under Biden than Trump, in large part because Biden rolled back common sense restrictions that were in place under Trump...

Then you'll hate me pointing out that Trump introduced a 25% tariff on Chinese EVs, and Biden is upping that to 100% tariff.

This is part of the tragedy of the endless campaign that we have now in the US. Criticism of the current president isn’t an endorsement of the opposition in a campaign for an election. It is criticism of the current president - a reaction to policy. The campaign shouldn’t even come up at this point in the year.

The US media’s obsession with covering government like a sport rather than informing citizens about policies and their consequences has paralyzed the political discourse.

I swear, having a Black president literally made America go insane.

When I think about how utterly wiiiiild everything is, I think, Hm, what was the catalyst? What was the thing that made half this country go completely bonkers?

Barack Obama.

As there is a new aboombong album of out soon, I am revisiting previous releases.

After the success of collaboration on articulations, I decided to continue the trend with the 9th aboombong album, AGNOSIS. This time I reached out to a friend I met while working on my PHD., Lana Van Boven, a trained singer, her husband Brian Shaw (), who is a music professor, and an old bandmate, David Liso, who I have been in several bands with. Pulling from ancient texts/music, deconstructing them, and the rebuilding them, AGNOSIS ended up exploring the connection between classical traditions and modern music. A rewarding project.

When did β€œthe 80’s” start? πŸ€”

I like this answer from Reddit πŸ‘‡

"I see five distinct parts:

80 - 81: Fast Times at Ridgemont High era, rock was popular, New Wave just showing up. J Geils Band, Asia, Billy Squier.

82 - 83: New Romantics era, New Wave becomes more widely accepted. Culture Club, Spandau Ballet, Missing Persons.

84 - 85: Monsters of Pop era. Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Cindy Lauper.

86 - 87: Stock Aitken Waterman era, where pop became a bit overproduced. Bananarama, Pet Shop Boys, Cutting Crew.

88 - 89: Hair Band era, where pop was taken over by teased hair and electric guitars. Poison, Def Leppard, Guns N Roses.

(Of course, the R&B charts had their own eras, and had very successful crossovers in every era, from Lionel Richie to Janet Jackson.)"

@Defiance @SpaceAce

I think of β€œthe 80s” aesthetic starting around 1978 and ending around 1990. But it has to include punk, hardcore, rap, metal, and club music. Those pop acts were reacting to the underground very directly in the 80s.
