I listened to part of Morning Joe this morning and has he lost his mind? He was going on about college students demonstrating for . What is his major malfunction? I know he's a conservative but yuck. The students are demonstrating against obvious Israeli gov't war crimes & their schools' various types of ties to Israel & the war. Joe Scarborough's biases make him sound like a liar or an idiot. Giving the Israeli gov't a pass isn't a moral good.

Money is like shit. If we spread it around, it functions as fertilizer, enabling incredible ideas to sprout and grow. If instead we just pile it up into mountains, it stinks and all the great stuff that could sprout and flourish is starved of nutrients.

Universal basic income is the good shit.

Is Trump ahead in the polls, because Biden is losing support amongst one of his key demographics: Black men? Or are the polls all a lie?

Trump ahead in polls?

Biden camp doesn't believe the polls?
https://www.axios.com/2024/05/14/biden-polls-denial-trump-2024-election

Either way, the most important thing to do, is to ignore, insult, argue with, and generally disrespect, Black men online! 🤡 Find a Black man, and yell "Trump is worse!" in his face as hard as you can! Swear at him, and threaten him with violence!

All good points. What I don’t hear explicitly said in the media or Fediverse is that the working class and poor White folks have so much more in common with working class and poor Black and Hispanic and Asian folks than with the White Elites. Sadly, voting is being done more along racial lines instead of by economic or income groups.

Reuters review of TX property records shows SpaceX & its contractors can be far slower to pay builders, suppliers than they are to break ground. Unpaid bills, finger-pting among contractors have led many construction-industry businesses to file liens against SpaceX properties in efforts to get compensated.

Result, several of those businesses told Reuters, is reluctance to work on SpaceX-related projects again. "If they were to call me today, I'd tell them to fuck off".. https://www.reuters.com/technology/space/musks-spacex-is-quick-build-texas-slow-pay-its-bills-2024-05-13/

I worked at a Fortune 500 company’s production plant. At one point after a re-org, we were routinely missing chemicals or parts or supplies from the small local specialty businesses. Because some dumbass MBA in the finance and accounting squadron decided he could slip their payment terms to 90 days from 30. As a result techs would sit around waiting and bill overtime but first line managers were too meek to say anything up the chain. A whole quarter went with low production (1/2)

Heather Cox Richardson comments on how Republicans exploit the cowboy myth to attack the notion of strong federal governance. As she says,

"The cowboy myth originated during the Reconstruction era as a response to the idea that a government that defended Black rights was 'socialist' and that the tax dollars required to pay bureaucrats and army officers would break hardworking white men."

The Noble Prophet replied: “Towards your mother.”

The Noble Prophet again said: “Your Mother.”

    One of the (many) problems with modern collaborative communication-tools, like Slack, is that they don't lend themselves to conversational-tangents. If they have threading (and, what Teams has is definitely not threading), it's pretty limited: you can start a thread, but not subthreads.

    These group-chat tools lack crucial functionality that don't really let them match up to ancient tools like email or Usenet.

    jadugar63,

    Teams, on the customer workstations, is bad. There's two versions, both throwing errors and not working with SSO. So I nuke 'em both. Start the new version, it pukes. Start the old version, it asks if I want to use new version, then signs me into new version. Repeatable. I guess that clusterfuckery consistency is a plus with this customer's implementation? Or has MS not tested/learned of this scenario?

    jadugar63,
    @jadugar63@mastodon.social avatar

    @ferricoxide
    On MacBookPro, old version worked fine. Occasionally would hijack the built-in mic so other apps like Google Meet couldn't use it, but a client restart would fix that.
    New version just doesn't work. Then if you uninstall and delete the cache/folders, you get a colorful error string when trying to use the browser-based Teams.
    Then, tried to use it with a Win11 VM on Parallels, it fails to see the mic. But Google Meet in the same VM perfectly sees the mic and camera.

    Got word, today, that one of the contracts I contribute to is reducing headcount. The focus of most of the contracts my company works on is some variation on "cloud enablement". My immediate team's (we actually have two teams providing services) particular contribution is automation of things like security compliance, build standardization and deployment automation.

    The organization we do this for has really segmented budgets. Basically, each business program that produces applications for the rest of the organization has their own budget. Similarly, the group we're budgeted through has its own budget, but its mission is to help ensure that all of the organization's other groups are more easily able to do what it takes to securely provide their individual services.

    The group we're contracted to apparently wants to reduce their spend. They see many of our enablement tasks as prime for cutting – offloading the burden to all the other departments. If you thought to yourself, "won't that just result in a lot of extra and duplicative effort for all the other departments that will increase the overall budgetary requirements for the organization as a whole," you'd be correct. We've been through similar exercises before. Generally, each time there's a change in management, a new manager comes in and decides this type of change is how they can look good (by reducing their individual department's spending) and get a promotion.

    Usually after 12-24 months, the higher ups discover that the total budget has exploded, all the other departments' timelines have slid, etc.. They then bring in yet another new manager who's explicitly told to ensure their department does what it takes to help the larger organization deliver on time and on budget. Usually, this also results in those higher ups specifically seeking our company out to help them get back on track.
