No one warned me about entering a parallel freaking universe when I had a daughter.

Hey folks!

Please do NOT report artists for sharing links to where their art is available to purchase!

Just DO NOT be such a jerk!

If you want artists to keep sharing their work on mastodon, this whole "absolute no commercial posts at all" attitude has to stop. There is a huge difference between a big corporate ad campaign and an individual artist posting a link to their own art shop.

Edit/Update: Well, this blew up. I'm muting now, and won't see replies.

@AvonVilla @kristinHenry "I personally think creative expression is usually impaired by any sort of commercial activity and I try to steer clear of it."

Artists who can afford to avoid any sort of commercial activity are either hobbyists or extremely privileged...

I think zooming should be an explicit feature in the game (which triggers some behaviour/state change in the game besides zooming).🙃

@janriemer interesting idea! (Just remember to keep it accessible, some people need that zoom in order to engage at all)

Day 16 of (according to it takes 21 days in a row to detect the good before the bad). It doesn’t say how wide the range of good things ought to be. I am bugged that my own range is limited! (*)

After just 1 week, it was obvious I am either easy to please, or I really should get a life 😅

(*) good food, sunny days, nice bike ride, productivity at work, special bond with my teenager, that’s it! Not bad, but not as wide as I think is normal.

lizzard,
@lizzard@social.tchncs.de avatar

@koalie isn't the point of this exercise to learn to notice how these little things make you happy?

Also, I'd count "special bond with my teenager" as a huge win.

lizzard,
@lizzard@social.tchncs.de avatar

@koalie how long have you been doing this for already?

I did a similar thing in therapy this spring (I collected a list of things that help me recharge), and it took about a week until I had "calibrated" myself to reflecting whether something was good for me, then I gradually started noticing things.

Also, if you want to find new things that you're happy about - maybe it's time for actively planning some self care activities.

Raising Good Humans: A Mindful Guide to Breaking the Cycle of Reactive Parenting and Raising Kind, Confident Kids

A kinder, more compassionate world starts with kind and compassionate kids. In Raising Good Humans, you’ll find powerful and practical strategies to break free from “reactive parenting” habits and raise kind, cooperative, and confident kids.

Occasionally I see videos of people rapidly doing things, like doing work, sorting stuff, chopping/building/crafting things, using calculators/devices, and I realized one thing is absent there

Computers. Anything that runs a full operating system.

Why?

Because they SUCK, developers all massively assume that it's okay for an animation to take sometimes even SECONDS, that it's fine to not preload things because "humans aReN't fAsT eNoUgH", etc.

We need more programs that aren't SLOW as dogshit

lizzard,
@lizzard@social.tchncs.de avatar

@anthropy this is because people doing things fast in an automated way using a computer is not very clickbaity.

lizzard,
@lizzard@social.tchncs.de avatar

@anthropy I suppose the trend towards web based interfaces hasn't helped there.

Been quiet the past couple days. Had been stressing about family visit. It’s been OK actually, even though I didn’t get everything on my list done.

I must say that having the house decluttered has been so nice. As always I’m baffled why I waited, but then I also get why brain inhibits me sometimes.

Goal is to find tactics to help avoid the clutter from blossoming. I’m trying are ideas to start. I like thinking of it as a gift to myself.

@actuallyautistic

lizzard,
@lizzard@social.tchncs.de avatar

@btaroli I decluttered two rooms this weekend, after which I was massively overwhelmed (but happy, I love decluttered spaces). I tried to get some quiet time but failed, because I have a kid. The day then escalated from there because I just couldn't take any more stimulation. Ended up having a breakdown and crying for two hours.

Just saying: I feel your pain, and in this household we have the same panic every time that relatives announce a visit.

So many shady orgs cynically presenting child abuse as an "online problem" & peddling expanded surveillance as the solution while counting on the unpleasant emotional weight of the topic to distract us frm demanding evidence re claims that surveillance helps kids (there's none).

lizzard,

@Mer__edith in short: enabling more surveillance over citizens through law enforcement and civil companies alike, and making encryption unlawful or at least make it look immoral ("what do you have to hide").
