It’s frustratingly slow and easy to get cynical but really this is just the process - which is like this generally for good reasons so we don’t jail (or worse) people who don’t deserve it. But this system’s critical weakness is that it can be gamed and delayed by folks with near infinite wealth. The bell will sound at some point, though, hopefully!

By banning (or forcing sale of) TikTok (which I loathe), Congress -- Democrats as well as Republicans -- and a Democratic president just performed extreme censorship of the Internet.

They claimed it was for your privacy, but that is a flagrant and stupid lie.

They believe you have no privacy rights, and deserve none, and have made that clear again and again.

We need public spaces controlled by the public, not rapacious companies and control-freak lawmakers.

@joeo10 @dangillmor @mcc I follow and respect mcc, but I generally dislike slippery slope arguments. As she pointed out, there is a short list of specific countries, and Congress has had classified briefings that I wish they would share, but I still think this is a good move. I think Congress should also pass general data privacy laws, but I think both the divestment or ban of TikTok and data privacy laws are required.

I got banned from a large leftist meme group for articulating why I think tactical voting is consistent with being angry and dissatisfied with the political duopoly in the US.

(Briefly, it's easier to continue advancing ranked choice voting and the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact when we don't have to be so wholly focused on fighting a slide into authoritarian white Christian nationalism.)

Feels a little weird, and makes me all the more worried about this election year.

The rest of your post is equally hyperbolic and fact bent, which I think is a big problem. The UNRWA investigation is still ongoing, and determinations will be made when it concludes.

"Great presidents" do not join picket lines for photo ops and cross them when convenient.

They do not pass environmental protections then balance them out with increased fossil fuel production, both in the name of "The Economy."

They do not stand idly by as minorities are actively and systematically persecuted, offering the Democratic Party equivalent of "thoughts and prayers" and passing neutered Executive Orders with only surface-level value.

They do not use democracy as a bargaining chip for a second term instead of actively putting in safeguards against fascism.

They do not actively support genocide.

Joe Biden is not a good president. He is not a good person. He is not progressive. He is neoliberal in the most obvious and obnoxious of ways

The above points are ideological differences beyond debate or discussion. If you see any of these things as "debatable," you need to examine how you weigh human life and rights before speaking on these topics again.

While I will hold my nose and vote for him this year, I have and will continue to unfollow and/or block those not who praise individual decisions made by the current administration, but who praise Biden as a person and president. He is the "lesser of two evils," but ignoring his offenses will ensure these problems are not fixed.

Hamas may have committed war crimes on Oct 7.

The whole point of international law is to bring all parties to account.

Holding Hamas, alone, responsible, but not Israel, is tantamount to supporting Israel's genocide.

Of course the civilian casualties are horrific, but should Israel not retaliate against its enemy to protect itself, because the enemy terrorists use human shields, and risk another 10/7?
