@mjohanning@birds.town

My name is Marvin and I live in Bielefeld (Germany) currently working as a #sysadmin at a small ISP. I also self-publish books from time to time.

Most of my free-time, however, is spent doing #photography — mostly of #birds and, sometimes, other types of wildlife.

I will mostly be posting photos of birds or other bird-related content on this account, but I will also — at times — post stuff about languages and computers. I post mainly in English and German.

This tree's bark is moving! Or maybe it's just a very well-camouflaged Short-Toed Treecreeper.

And I guess as well!

A very high-ISO photo of a Eurasian Nuthatch doing the signature nuthatch pose with some type of nut or seed in his beak.

Not someone I see all too frequently, especially not with FLOOF mode engaged: A Common (or Lesser?) Whitethroat!

This redstart crouches against the wall and does not try to flee when approached. I suspect it is a young one that has just fledged.

Are there a bird experts here who know whats wrong with it? @wurzelmann or @Kuestentroete maybe?

@derthomas @wurzelmann @Kuestentroete @guenterhack @loren You say wall. Could it have flown into a window and have suffered a trauma?

I saw an adorable floof ball! Long-Tailed Tits are great but very restless. You often point your camera at them only for them to fly away as soon as they're focussed.

@kuketzblog Blinde Kuh! Wusste gar nicht, dass es die noch gibt. Die haben wir schon in der Grundschule vorgeschlagen bekommen.

You can always count on a robin to brighten your day, though they are rather shy birds here (unlike in the UK, I've heard).

Here's one I saw looking for some worms or insects to catch off the ground.

A very inquisitive-looking Common Linnet with its head fluff engaged and the beautiful red spot on the head being visible.

This one sat on the lower portion of a spruce as opposed to sitting on top of it for once, so I finally managed to take a decent photo. I am not 100% certain but I believe there to have been around 2-3 juveniles around as well.

Vi har privilegiet att se en fiskgjuse jaga med fantastiska moln i bakgrunden.

@wimi Jag har aldrig sett en fiskgjuse förut. Jag hoppas att jag kommer att se en snart! :-)

A beautifully fluffy Long-Tailed Tit (Schwanzmeise) I saw on my walk yesterday evening. Always a delight being able to see these little balls of fluff!

Despite its name, it's not actually related to other tits like the Blue Tit or Great Tit.

@kkarhan It is a good way of making sure it's not accidentally enabled, I agree. But I still find it funny!

@wimi Tack så mycket! “Rotkehlchen" på tyska, samma som i svenskan.

A very majestic-looking Common Linnet on its throne. Their German name "Bluthänfling" (Blood Hempling) derives from their red chest and their love for hemp and flax seeds.

The "Rote Liste der Brutvögel Deutschlands 2021" classifies them as endangered in Germany, unfortunately.

Because they're great, here's another photo of one of the juvenile Spotted Flycatchers I saw yesterday. This one has activated his head fluff.
