Disagreeing with the results of is what brings all us Europeans together. We can't fight it. Nobody dies over it. We all come together to wonder who the hell voted for all the other countries we didn't vote for. It is the most wonderful of wonderful things.

If the right to protest peacefully is prohibited then it seems to me that there's no disadvantage in protesting violently.

Started reading The Expanse novels before they were partly turned into the TV series, then held off finishing them until I'd picked up the entire series in paperback. A few months ago I started the big old re-read and completion, and that's come to its conclusion this morning. So, so good. Incredible scale, fantastic politics, great characters, believable science, unbelievable science, humour, staggering action; it's got the lot.

Something that might count for and might count for too, but is mostly posted because I randomly threw it up on Instagram too. From 2012, this is just a scene of urban life in the town of Reus, Spain. We spent a week in a town not far away and took the bus here one day to see the birthplace of architect Antoni Gaudí. This isn't one of his designs, obviously.

An unknown waterfall somewhere along Norway's Nordfjord last year. You can get a sense of its size from the house in the photo. It was bitterly cold as we cruised through this part of the fjords, but you never let a little thing like the temperature stop you from being awestruck by what nature offers up.

We've just cruised under the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. The weather has been a little gloomier and chillier and damper than we'd have ideally liked, but I've been told by a friend in the area that they've welcomed the arrival of the lower temperature and rain. Interesting departure passing close to Alcatraz Island and being accompanied by a dozen or more pelicans in the ship's slipstream.

For here's part of Auke Bay near Juneau, Alaska, and some sea lions (or seals; I can never remember which is which) resting on a navigation buoy. This was taken a few months ago at the conclusion of our incredible whale-watching trip out there.

Prepping photos for the next write-up on my site, digging into some of the phone photos taken when we visited the Garden Society of Gothenburg, and this rainbow-coloured bench really stood out so I figured, why not share it?

Busy, slowly lightly processing the pictures taken from our recent holiday. Since it's and I've reached where we waited at anchor for a day along with dozens of oil tankers and cargo container ships, why not share a picture from there?

An old pier in a state of decay but of use to the cormorants in this part of the world. This is from 2016 and is the shoreline at Punta Arenas, Chile, for this week.

For with some eye candy for geology fans too, this is Nanya, a scenic viewpoint considered a natural garden to the people of Taiwan, located along the coast from Keelung on the north of the island country. The rock is sandstone and many of the weathered formations around here have attracted names as a result.

For this is a window from the 13th century Netley Abbey not too far away from us here in Hampshire. Netley was a Cistercian abbey and it is one of the best preserved examples of its type in the south of England.

Random photo from the archives, back from when I had a technique for pseudo-HDR monochrome processing and liked to use it a lot when sharing images on Google+.

This was taken in late 2014 in Exeter Quay, Devon when we used nearby Exmouth as a base for exploring the area for a few days.

Almost halfway through the voting window for the second semi-final in this year's Mineral Cup and the Fortress of Solitude just has the lead over the Borg Cube, but the difference is so little as to be practically negligible.

How did I vote? Well, I like Star Trek, I like the Borg, but I also like to be contrary, so got my vote over in this case.

A little-known and utterly wonderful thing in Reykjavík is the Recycled House, to the north east of the main city centre. It's a home and a public art exhibition of scrap wood and metal transformed into buildings with mythological themes and elements of witchcraft and tribalism. Eerie, but excellent.

I wrote about our chance encounter here on our website:

https://www.neonbubble.com/travel/reykjaviks-recycled-house/

On a very overcast, cool-feeling day we're on dark gravel looking at what appears to be a house built from rusted girders and sheets, some of which are decorative, cut into abstract swirls. A rust sphere is mounted on a pole at the far end and a wire structure of a bird sits above a corrugated roof nearer us. The building is partly hidden behind weeds and large-leafed plants sprouting up from its own roots.
It's a cool, grey day, and we're on grey, rocky ground with shale and boulders competing for space at our feet. Ahead of us is a small building built with stone foundations and with an open front we'd likely have to duck down a little to enter. It's almost a shed in form but its roof is a jagged decoration of rusted art pieces. Girders, poles, metal spheres turned gritty and brown with exposure to the elements, and forms from the scrap that could be nearly human.
It's a cool, grey day and we're on a rocky shoreline, crouched down low among the boulders and looking out across a flat sea, grey like the clouds above. On a boulder in front of us is a sheet of metal, mounted flat on, and cut in the shape of a chunky seal, complete with flippers and whisker attachments on its face that stares out at the water.

If you like animals and you like intelligence and you like intelligent animals then you're probably already a fan of corvids, and you've likely seen examples of just how smart they can be already, but that's no reason not to watch the latest video covering that very thing with New Caledonian Crows and their tool-making ability.

Snap from the phone after our departure from last night, heading along the coast. Tomorrow, we cross the border when we make our first stop at , and we've got a whale-seeing boat trip followed by a visit to the Mendenhall Glacier booked.

Had a bit of an early night last night but in our defence we'd been awake for 27 hours by that time.
