If there was an element that changes it's content when users interact with other elements on the page, what name would it have?

PLEASE NOTE: I am not suggesting that this element needs to exist; I am only asking what it would be called. I'm building a CustomElement, I just want it to have a name that makes sense.

Vote and suggest others in replies. Please boost for reach!

Dear

Who are your favorite and who have stopped posting to Twitter? People who support and in the community on the instead of chasing engagement on a hate-site?

I want to them!!!

schizanon, to mastodon

I want to fix the problems with clients.

What are your problems with Mastodon clients?

What would you improve about the clients you use?

schizanon, to linux

I don't understand what is for

Is it a distro? Or is it a orchestration tool?

At my last job our env was managed by it, but I was using it on and we also had to have , so I could honestly never figure out what it was there for.

new song is great, video's great, there's no gay sex in it but man it's making the bigots on mad as hornets! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=II-L8Hq0_i4 @music

Say you are on a site with a large paginated list. When you scroll all the way to the bottom there is a link to get the "next/older" page.
At the top is a link to get the "previous/newer" page.

If you click "previous/newer" link would it be weird if the page that loads is automatically scrolled to it's bottom?

I feel weird about monkeying with scroll position, but given that timelines are chonological I think it makes sense?

@trumpet please stop blocking threads so that I can follow and boost @POTUS

This policy of blocking entire instances simply because you don't like who runs them is silly and detrimental to the Fediverse not to mention our democracy.

schizanon, to privacy

is such an interesting subject to me, because on one hand it's "a basic human right" but practically it's the right to lie and deceive each other.

I don't have a very good memory, and I believe that information wants to be free. So privacy has always seemed like a dangerous thing to me; like fighting thermodynamics.

That said, if I were a competitive person I can see how my attitude might need to change; hard to win when you're giving away all your secrets.

I'm actually enjoying reading my feed with https://schizo.social!

I really like having the "previous/newer" page scroll to the bottom, it kinda loosely approximates !

I think I may want to have the timelines maintain your position across the session so it doesn't skip over a bunch of new statuses when you refresh..

schizanon, to mastodon

Mastodon should allow instances to provide their own icons.

Or if it does, then more instances should use that feature because I've got like four purple icons in my start menu right now.

schizanon, to fediverse

I'm working on https://schizo.social again. There's still tons of basic client stuff I could work on, like logout, or rendering boosts, but my goal is to build a client for managing multiple accounts; things like syncing following/mutes/etc. Not really trying to build a client you'd use to read. I want to implement login, but calckey.social is down. Maybe I should start with handling multiple accounts first?

I just paid under $300 for a with 9 CORES up to 3.8Ghz, 16GB of RAM, and dual 2.5GbE NICs. It's even got a GPU with video decoding so it can transcode Plex. What a time to

programming is fascinating.

is already mysterious, but programming a chip to emulate other chips is just straight up extraterrestrial

Red flags in a codebase

Fun new I've been getting on my / PC.

It reoccurs a couple times and then stops.

schizanon, to webdev

This might be heresy but:

  1. Code reviews are a massive productivity tax with tiny quality benefits
  2. They should not be mandated
  3. The author should feel free to request a review if they want it
  4. If you don't trust your engineers, invest more in CI, or hire better ones

What do you call groups of people who must yuck other people's yum?

People who seem to form an opinion that's always contrary to the popular one and then use social media to get headpats for sharing it?

I've called these people but UrbanDictionary says that carries a nihilistic connotation.

These people think of themselves as being virtuous.

Is it just ?

I hear that people think that a / server like / ought to be a discrete piece of , not just a device because:

  1. stability; no reboots on host update
  2. should get full control of NICs, probably for security sake?

Are these valid? Does the host have a lot of downtime? It seems to me that would be a deal breaker for a

What if I dedicate my NICs to the and use the wifi for management?

schizanon, to web3

I know we're all sick of and it's totally not cool of me to say this, but...

"If you aren't the customer you're the product", still applies to the ; somebody is paying the hosting bill for your instance, you just don't know what they are planning on getting out of it yet.

guard clauses are a brainworm

if(!whatIWant) handleError
if(!otherThingIWant) handleOtherError
doWhatIWant

negation operators are confusing and it reads backwards.

if() statements are for the condition you want

else is for exception handling

if (whatIWant)
if(otherThingIWant) doWhatIWant
else handleOtherError
else handleError

this reads better because you don't have to negate the conditions and what you want comes first.

schizanon, (edited ) to webdev

There's this problem that you encounter when you build a #webApp that depends on one or more #API data sources.

Your user wants to see results right away. The data sources take an indeterminate amount of time to respond.

The solutions are a shit sandwich.

schizanon, (edited ) to mastodon

I did it! https://schizo.social lets you log into multiple accounts at once and merges the timelines!
