powered up my abandoned Windows 7 box for a laugh & it refuses to update to any more modern version with assorted software errors & doesn't recognise the Win 11 installer as a win32 app

might flash ubuntu or nix onto it. thing's about a decade old, all mini-itx onboard everything & not upgradable

Hello my lovely engineers. I wanted to ask you all about your experience with online hosting!

I am eager to spend money and get systems up and running but so far this experience has been painful

Tried to sign up for an account with digital ocean (I wanted to support them since they share such good documentation online). It rejected my paypal login and locked me out of my account with "additional information required" and I had to file a support ticket. I'm sure they'll get back to me next week -,-

So I decided to try ionos since I have a friend who has a server with them. Tried to set up a lil VPS and am now waiting for someone to approve it.

Getting sick of playing waiting games with companies -.-
Any of you have similar experiences?

Before my dad passed in 2013, he used to say that he felt the End of Days was coming soon. He was referring to the Syrian War, in which innocent people were and are still dying, and the Arab Spring of 2011.
I laughed. No way, dad.
Ten years later, the wars in the Middle East have ramped up, the U.S.A. teeters on the brink of dictatorship, the Earth is making human life impossible, and democracies are crumbling.
Maybe dad was right, after all?
We'll see.

The House bill to “fund” Israeli aid is idiotic. By pulling 14.3 billion in enforcement funds from the IRS, it results in a loss of revenue of $26.7B according to the just released CBO report. That means it will cost us $12.5 billion over a decade. Far from paying for the Israel aid, it costs us another $12.5 billion MORE. This bill should go NOWHERE.

No, my trauma made me traumatized, it made me weak, gave me sleepless nights, and memory loss. It gave me feelings I've never wanted. I made myself stronger, by dragging myself out of a dark place, and dealing with consequences that weren't my fault.

@herbincowgirl one thing I have noticed is that the nicest most empathic people usually have been hurt pretty bad, so at the very least pain teaches us to be sympathetic towards others in a unique way due to a very deep understanding of what it's like

My entire life I've been trying to explain to liberals that "gotcha" stories about Republicans being hypocrites literally do not matter. We know they're hypocrites. Their voters know they're hypocrites — and like that. You should point this out when doing real reporting on an issue, but constant posts like "Majorie Taylor Greene said X two months ago, now she says Y!!!!!" make serious issues into just noise.

But I just realized liberals already know this but, similar to Republicans, don't care.

Little tip: in the little meatballs menu (three lil dots) on each post you see on your feed there should be a "filter this post" option. You can use that to yeet that post into the void never to grace your feed again. Very useful when you've seen a post boosted for the umpteenth time and are getting sick of it, or there's an upsetting post that's managing to sneak by your filters

Reminder: we are not "post covid". Over 8,000 people are being hospitalized for covid-19 every week in the US alone.

It continues to kill countless people. When you get it you have roughly a 1 in 5 chance of getting long covid that could last the rest of your life. If you get it again, the odds get worse.

What if AI really is taking over, but instead of grand wars or job losses, it’s just control via weird spellcheck corrections, re-directions of non-junk-mail into the junk folder so it’s unseen, failure to let us into rooms we have access to and other similar interventions? What if it’s just sneaking round the back, cunningly disguised as the basic incompetence that we’re all entirely resigned to? There’s so much of that about that surely it’s the perfect camouflage.
