  • One of every 15 adults has or had Long COVID.
  • 69% more common in women than men.
  • Not significantly correlated with household income.
  • More common in adults 35 to 64 than in younger or older cohorts.
  • Almost 50% more common in the unvaccinated and unboosted than those who got a vaccine booster.

Ok enough me complaining about research that I want to read not existing (https://mastodon.social/@grimalkina/112576085634643142), let's do something actionable.

So you're in an engineering org using something like Copilot. You want tips from science so YOU feel you are using them in a way that is efficient & grows your skills vs muting them. Or you want to help colleagues.

(Even if you profoundly disagree w/these tools, there is benefit in a harm reduction approach & knowing what helps the humans right here right now)

Diagnosing our own knowledge gaps is actually half the battle. Experts aren't people without knowledge gaps -- they're people who excel at recognizing them and solving them early!

I've observed in my research that when exploring an unexpected friction or "break" experts do a lot of "anchoring" -- choosing a piece of the codebase or a causal relationship they feel they deeply understand and iterating in tiny steps out from there. This is in line with good learning science!

Small update:

As predicted a month ago, COVID infections are starting to rise in the US. The rise is not great (yet) in most of the nation. (For instance, here in my home state of Wisconsin, we remain near our 12-month lows.) But, this is not the case everywhere--in fact, there are places with very high levels of infections based on wastewater metrics. (1/6)

Once again, the media focuses only on the bathrooms. And while in this case, bathroom restrictions aren't just in schools or government buildings - it's all bathrooms, locker rooms, etc. - reporters have once again ignored that yet another state has legally erased the existence of trans people from public life thanks to the careful and very intentional wording of the bill.

Genuinely quite surprised at the number of people coming out to say throwing a milkshake at Farage was 'assault' and must never happen to politicians. I absolutely agree politicians should not be subject to violence, but there is a long, proud history of throwing foodstuffs at people as a form of protest. Intended to humiliate and ridicule, not to injure. Pleased to see Mastodon mostly agrees. #Farage #Milkshake

These days whenever I'm in a pub like stereo in glasgow where they've had gender neutral toilets for many years, it strikes me over again how utterly dishonest transphobic "feminism" is

It's one of the safest pubs in the city, because they've actively, intentionally cultivated it as a safe environment largely through inclusion

The idea that policing people's bodies to decide which toilet they can have a piss in would somehow make some of us safer is such manipulative nonsense

Sorry for repeating myself, but if you live in a Christian-majority country, pay attention to ex-Muslim atheists.

Christians in Christian-majority countries and Muslims in Muslim-majority countries frequently make false claims about being persecuted. After a while, it can be easy to find yourself tuning out such claims.

But it's different if we're talking about Christians or Muslims in a place in which they are not in power.

"Does kink belong at " is trending again, no big surprise there.

I invite those seriously discussing this question to ask themselves whether there is any level of respectability to which we could possibly aspire, which the cishet conservative folks would possibly accept as publicly acceptable, and then consider why you're letting them define the limits.

These are, after all, people who would consider a "Let Trans Kids Grow Up" shirt as morally indefensible, who believe that a book about two male penguins raising a chick is a vile and outrageous piece of media.

To the amoral conservative guardians, throwing homeless people in jail and burning their belongings is perfectly defensible, but we, the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, are in our very existence a kink, a moral aberration.

I'm not saying genitalia should be on full public display. I am saying that if we let the busybody crowd set the rules, before long there won't be any Pride celebrations anymore.
