Tasted the famous #Korean#WalnutCake. This one also had #RedBeanPaste in it, and it was pretty tasty. I liked the contrast between the #walnut and sweet red bean paste.
I always get a good laugh over people that think language doesn't change. Gender Neutral is trying to make it's way into german and a bunch of conservatives are just losing their minds. When one of my classmates asked one of my Teachers in German Class in Germany, he replied
"When I was young my teacher said that it is 'Zu Dem' Zum does not exist." and left it at that. Obviously it was in German. Teachers are not allowed to speak any other language. This was for ease.
If you were to drive to the Store, you could say "Ich fahre zum Supermarkt" because zum is now part of common language and taught in schools as formal German.
You can try to resist and mock living languages but the people and the languages will live to mock your stubborness, blindness and blatant conceit. It doesn't matter if it's German, Spanish, English or whatever. Languages change. Strict adherence to the Duden or whatever just makes you look like an asshole.
Have learned 100/1000 Chinese characters using mnemonics and memory palace techniques :). Apps I'm using to do this: Tofu Learn to write the characters and Du Chinese as a graded reader.
@liztai Never got a grasp on memory palace techniques but I learned a few characters by flipping through a book meant for teaching Chinese to children by sorta "seeing" the things some of the characters represent...I definitely want to learn the language so I might as well pick up those techniques as I go about it :D
I was rather over ambitious with pre-Hobi birthday dinner cooking! Got the right paste for doen-jang jjigae ( tofu & soybean paste soup) got fish cakes for
Tteokbokki, home made kimchi for rice.. had to cook the pork first, and chop for cucumber salad #Korean#dinner#HappyBirthdayHobi
( Only 3 of the hobs work, which can cause issues... )
( Otherwise occupied tomorrow evening on actual birthday. Japchae on Sunday)
The #Korean Intern Resident Association plans to hold a virtual meeting to discuss potential collective actions against the government's proposed increase in medical school enrollment quotas.
U.S. trade officials among those concerned about Quebec's new #French#language sign rules
The Office of the #UnitedStates Trade Representative, which is under the president's authority, issued a news release Wednesday saying senior advisor Cara Morrow met with #Canada's deputy minister for international trade, Rob Stewart, to discuss, among other things, "concerns about trademark provisions of #Quebec's Bill 96 and their potential implications for U.S. businesses, including small and medium-sized enterprises."
The "window" -> "winder" thing I think is something else but I always assumed the extra r sound on the end of words was all the same. It's a lot more complex than that apparently #language#linguistics
A question for bilingual/polyglot people: Do you post both in English and in your other, native languages? How do you decide which one? I see my English posts get more reach, probaly because some people have filtered out other languages.
I find it easiest to post in the language whatever I feel like writing in. I don't give it much thought. How about you?
@rolle
Insofar as my own behavior might be vaguely typical, I don’t think it’s a matter of filtering. My instance doesn’t have built-in translation, so since I have no ability to read Finnish I just tend to scroll past such posts. French and English are almost interchangeable for me in reading, and for some languages like German I’ll labor through it (assisted as necessary by Google Translate) if it looks especially interesting/important.
Here is a recent #cover of “Broke up today” (오늘 헤어졌어요) by #Korean#Kpop#singer known as Onestar.
This is one of my favorite #songs, initially made by Younha (윤하).
My latest batch of Kimchi is underway. I tend to use swede, (rutabaga) as the main ingredient instead of daikon or moolie, as this is difficult to get round here. I have used turnip in the past but prefer swede due to the colour and flavour. #kimchi#korean#vegan#vegetarian#ferment#vegetables
The #Korean language has ranked as the second-most-popular #Asian language that Americans want to learn, with the popularity of Korean #culture, including #Kdramas and #Kpop, likely contributing to the significant interest, according to a recent study.
The #Korean Society of #Superconductivity and #Cryogenics declared #LK-99 room-temperature #superconductor 'groundless' after 8 labs failed to replicate results. No evidence of zero resistance or the #Meissner effect has been found, challenging researchers' claims.
Melissa Lee became the first #Korean-born minister for #NewZealand, taking on the role of Minister for Economic Development, Ethnic Communities, Media and Communications in the ruling National Party-led coalition government.
