Well that's a first. Attacked by a seemingly unhealthy rat on a sidewalk in East Van. Had to kick it away a few times, reported it to the city. Keep your eyes open people!

Herr's a pair of videos from yesterday's flight from Vancouver Harbour over to Victoria Harbour on Harbour Air. Mac and I flew a DHC-6 Twin Otter across and I had the front row aisle seat which was right behind the cockpit.

What are these smol geese? They're called Cackling Geese, and will sometimes be found around flocks of Canada Geese. Apparently it's a fun challenge to look for them during bird counts. Though they have the same colours, they stand out by their size (not much bigger than a duck) and proportionately smaller neck and bill.

Also a lifer! About time, I've been hearing about them for a while -- Lost Lagoon, Stanley Park, April 21

That red-purple mass between the rocks is a colony of starfish having a snooze in the sun (I'm assuming, there was zero movement, I'm guessing they're waiting for the tide). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pisaster_ochraceus

I didn't go too close, but a rough estimate would say 30-50 of them, at first sight (partly out of frame). No idea how many submerged.

Here’s an unpopular opinion (that no one asked for) - is , but better.

Granville island in Vancouver is what Pike Place is in Seattle, but waaaay better. The aquarium in Vancouver is what Seattle’s aquarium wants to be, when it grows up (or get remodelled). The Vancouver downtown has most elements of Seattle downtown, but (you guessed it) much better.

@urig This is a humorous response to the red flags police departments install on some crosswalks for people to carry from one side to the other to be “visible”. The point is precisely showing this is dangerous and a joke disguised as security theatre.

It was meant to last a single day in a well known location that should have no cars at all, but looks like it was moved to a different place and left there “permanently” (or until the foam bricks are stolen or damaged). https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/bricks-vancouver-crosswalk-pedestrian-safety
