I see a lot of posts on here chiding people for suggesting #linux as a solution to the surveillance capital tool know as #Microsoft#Windows.
I understand their point to a point, however, the solution to windows spying is, ultimately, to not use windows.
If you would like to not use windows but don't know where to start, I'd be more than happy to have a chat with you to help get you started on your journey.
It's really not that bad, folks. If you're ready to stop paying hundreds of dollars for the pleasure of having all your data stolen, hit me up, and let's figure something out for you, today!
i have been asked to explain #Linux: it's a fork of #Google#Android intended for virtualized use on #Apple#macOS and #Microsoft#Windows desktops, although lately it's seen some uptake in datacenter applications
This whole thread about the Recall feature on #Microsoft Copilot PCs is making me anxious about future workplaces that may supply a Recall-capable #Windows laptop, and enforcing it/the policy to be enabled.
You should never install personal stuffs on a work PC for privacy reasons, but doesn't this take it to a whole nother level where you couldn't/shouldn't even i.e. reply to personal messages on it cos it's all recorded? 😮💨
But meh, fuck employers that'd force you to use a certain OS anyway.
My current workflow includes using a #windows Virtual Machine for the sole purpose of running #Microsoft Office and #OneDrive , and this clunky solution is still leagues better than actually running Windows on nearly every measure.
The pain the limited time I spend in that wee VM window underscores how bad Windows has gotten over the years.
The hilarious thing about Microsoft going all in on AI with #CoPilot and #Recall, they threw Intel and AMD under the bus. The whole last year of "AI PCs" won't get features like Recall.
The consumer reaction to Recall has been overwhelmingly negative, but all these companies are afraid of shareholders and investors wanting more AI hype to make stock prices look good.
But #AMD and #Intel have all these chips made that are falling in price fast.
You can find some CRAZY deals on computers right now that WONT run Recall, but are over-kill powerful for home systems.
Mini PC's used to sell chips that were two or three years old. This Geekom is using AMD's current laptop chip, with 32GB of RAM, and 2TB of storage for $899!
It's a REAL good time to shop a NON Recall compatible PC.
So if you have #Recall installed, always make sure you have a media player window open, playing some DRMed content, I dunno, Disney’s Frozen or some such. Paused, perhaps, or you’ll start losing it. Then it won’t record you. #LetItGo#Microsoft#Enshittification
Think I need to start planning for a total free software future. Been using Windows 10 for work and because it’s tolerable. Changed to VS Code because it’s a very good lightweight IDE. This #Recall spyware has forced me to conclude that #Microsoft have turned evil. I was optimistically naïve to think they might not be, in hindsight. So, must look to changing to Linux Mint everywhere, and getting my #NeoVim setup perfected. (May revisit #Helix, if it has a tree view now). As for Apple.. hmm.
I've used their operating systems for more than 30 years. And I've used their development tools and databases for more than 25 years.
I haven't been enamored with them since they went all out with Azure. I've found no value in any of the Azure offerings. In fact, they've made my professional life much more difficult. Now they're cramming AI and CoPilot in, up, and down every one of our orifices. I don't want any of it.
The newest most powerful chips from Intel and AMD don't qualify for Microsoft's newest CoPilot+ AI branding. We're already seeing INCREDIBLE deals on crazy powerful PCs, because of all the AI hype! Here's my review of the Geekom A8, with a BEAST of an AMD chip inside! https://somegadgetguy.com/b/45e
HEADS UP ‼️ @Em0nM4stodon Skillfully pointed out that #Microsoft#Recall users put non-users privacy at risk.
Sending anyone using Windows with Recall activated an email, an image, a file they open, engaging with them on social media, or getting on a Zoom call with them could mean your information is screen captured, catalogued, and stored.
We are ALL at increased #privacy risk. Think about that. Sure the individual could screenshot your email or convo. But this is far more insidious than that.
☝️ Yes, the #Internet was not broken yesterday, only #Bing from #Microsoft and therefore these so-called alternatives, which apparently resist #Google. You should expand your naive belief and behaviour via #SearXNG, @Mojeek and/or #Stract search. You can find it by #search'ing for the corresponding hashtags in #Fediverse.
