I took these two pictures after 10 pm last night. I could barely see her shape but somehow my iPhone could see EVERYTHING. In past versions, these pictures would be blurry and dim. Very impressive? Or an uneasy feeling of voyeurism?
On the south side of Sunderland in North East England, the start of the Durham Heritage Coast which extends all the way down to Hartlepool Headland.
At this time of the year, a great spot to catch a late autumn sunrise as the Winter Solstice approaches.
In the distance is Salterfen Rocks and on a stormy night, pleased to report I can hear the roar of the waves crashing onto the beach!
These trees are amongst the oldest here. It is hard not to be awed by their beauty, to imagine what they have seen in their time here.
Sharing this because even on a cloudy, sunless day, there are things that can stop us in our tracks, just to take a moment with them. I hope you find your "smell the roses" moment today!
Photography has always been an escape for me -- I don't like winter very much, so looking back on sunnier days is comforting. These days, things feel pretty grim outside for reasons far beyond the weather and I think that's likely to get worse for a while, so that escape is even more important, at least to me. It's also important to find the light and share it, so in that vein, here's a sunset with inuksuit!
(I have often called them "inukshuk" but the Inuit-preferred spelling is "inuksuit" -- lots more interesting info here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inuksuk )
