My question is not whether Trump's conviction will influence his likely voters, but whether corporations and their ilk will be able to keep giving to a felon to the same degree. (Corrupt private individuals will doubtless continue)
"But there was something both more particular and general that we heard yesterday from Trump and even more from all the elected officials and MAGA influencers who rushed to his defense: that the entire criminal justice system is a joke."
It's only working when it's working on someone else....
Just some more good coverage on Trump versus entire concept of the rule of law.
"This tax season, more than 140,000 taxpayers in 12 eligible states made use of Direct File — which allows users to submit simple tax returns directly to the government."
"Senate Finance Committee chair Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) called the expansion 'tremendous news for taxpayers all over the country who are tired of getting ripped off by the big tax prep companies …' "
I almost threw up seeing a "Trump or Death 1776 - 2024" flag being waved by protesters in NYC on TV. The cult think is only getting more entrenched. #USPol
The GOP's candidate for President is a convicted felon, a rapist, a fraudster and his mind is turning to mush as we speak.
That he's still in the race with a chance is saying so much about America right now and that will be a legacy that will continue well into this century.
Please, no more "we're the No 1 Democracy in the world, a bastion of Freedom, everybody look up to us", ...even as a joke it's tired. 😔
“The water is coming up, up and up. ... You can see the little fish in my yard. It was like a river.”
From the archives, 2019: An Observer investigation found that unregulated dams across #Texas are increasingly failing—putting people and property in jeopardy. https://www.texasobserver.org/dammed-to-fail/
But a few are suggesting abandoning Trump as the #GOP nom.
Surprisingly, fmr congressman #MoBrooks (R-AL), a once loyal Trump ally, posted after the #verdict Thurs that the GOP “faces [a] choice.”
“Keep Trump as nominee & gamble USA’s future,” Brooks said, or “replace Trump with a good character nominee & BEAT THE STEW OUT OF BIDEN!”
“#America just witnessed a confused, desperate, & defeated Donald #Trump ramble about his own personal #grievances & lie about the American #justice system, leaving anyone watching with one obvious conclusion: This man cannot be president of the United States,” #Biden communications director Michael Tyler said in a statement.
"The Kremlin told reporters on Friday that Donald Trump’s guilty verdict was proof that all legal and illegal means were being used in the United States to get rid of political rivals”, Reuters is reporting.
Putin commenting about "getting rid of political rivals" in other countries?! 🤣 🤣 🤣
I had a student who was chewed up by the justice system in NYC— he was in my calc III class at the CC — and he could have gone on to a 4 year school with a scholarship— but that was not to be it’s a very nasty and remorseless system and I have no sympathy for someone who has only seen the concierge in kid gloves version.
Our justice system screws up with the innocent.
Our justice system abuses the guilty far beyond that which they are ostensibly sentenced.
And so my patience is rather thin for those whom it has gone out of its way, far beyond any standards of decency or justice, who can only now cry foul.
US Official Who Resigned Over Gaza Says Report Absolving Israel 'Patently False'
Stacy Gilbert described reading the report in shock bcz of how it contradicted expert consensus.
She immediately decided to resign.
The report, "among other contentious findings, determined that Israel wasn't restricting the transport or delivery of U.S. humanitarian assistance—an assessment that allowed the Biden administration to continue providing arms to Israel."
@DrALJONES The bottom line! "I cannot do my job in an environment in which specific people cannot be acknowledged as fully human, or where gender and human rights principles apply to some, but not to others, depending on their race,"
As someone who has a very general idea of how US politics works — does this conviction prevent Trump from running for the president in the upcoming election?
@uriel@rustoleumlove@grishka it is important to remember how we (US Americans) founded the country. There is a big difference between the law and morality. That's the "under god" part of the pledge of allegiance, which, I believe, even the secular left respects.
(Edit: don't get me wrong, the GOP is the worst aspect of #uspol and their choice of candidate is a horrible stain that accurately represents their corruption.)
