On the 50th anniversary of the Endangered Species Act, looking back to look forward.

As a child, I watched the men I loved in my family lift their high-powered rifles and shoot one #PrairieDog after another and another for fun, and then walk away. They called them “pop-guts.” On the way back to our camp, I stepped over their small blood-soaked,
But in 2000, in a special millennial issue of #TheNewYorkTimesMagazine, the Utah prairie dog was featured as one of 10 species most likely to become #extinct by the next millennium. Their fate was to become a ghost #species. I wrote a book on prairie dogs. Every month I sent a picture of prairie dogs in different poses (one with a helmet and bazooka) to friends at #TheUtahNatureConservancy, a playful nudge for #protection.
California bar suspends 1,600 attorneys for violating rules set up after Tom Girardi allegedly stole millions
More than 1,600 attorneys have been #suspended by the #California#State#Bar for violating rules about client trust accounts that were set up after disgraced L.A. attorney Thomas Girardi allegedly stole millions of dollars from his clients.
After the reporting component is fulfilled, the state bar will then begin compliance reviews and investigative audits when appropriate.
Originally, more than 1,700 attorneys were found in violation of the rules and enrolled as “inactive” with the bar, meaning they’re not legally allowed to practice law. As of Thursday afternoon, that number has dropped to 1,641 after some of the attorneys fulfilled their requirements, according to Special Counsel Steven Moawad, who works for the bar’s attorney #discipline#system.
A historic wave of tenant organizing is on the verge of winning renter protections that would be attached to federal loans—affecting 1 in 4 apartments. But Greystar, Blackstone, and AvalonBay are spending millions to block it....
I don't think that tourism (certainly the sort where you get off ships to go out on smaller boats or on land) should be allowed in Antarctica. It’s far too fragile and precious. I’ve been asked to go on a two week cruise to talk to paying customers about the science there and just the idea of participating in all that makes me feel sick. #ocean#protection#Earth
#GreatAlbums1990s - #MassiveAttack - #Protection (1994). Although only partially a rap album, Tricky’s Bristol drawl is a unifying factor in this seamless hybrid of hip hop, electronica and pop. Tracey Thorn’s croon, on the title track and “Better Things,” reinforced the disc’s crossover appeal, as Massive’s postmodern soul on Blue Lines grows deeper and darker on this sensual, often brooding tour-de-force. Portishead’s #Dummy was its only true rival. #Albums, #Reviews, #Rap, #GreatPopAlbums
The secure place is here and now. If you are settled in here and now nothing from the past can attack you, the past doesn't get to here and now it's past. Moreover nothing from the future can get to you...the self vanishing of all that occurs is the great protection. That is the safe place

#Security#Nerds and #Experts of #Mastodon, I have a #Question for you.
.
.
I am attempting to de-#Google my digital life (as much as is possible at the moment). I got myself an #Android#MobilePhone that does not have Google services installed on it, and I am using #FDroid, #AuroraStore, #APKPure, etc. to get the apps, and using the #AppBrain#AdDetector and #DuckDuckGo's #App#Tracking#Protection (#Beta built into their mobile browser).
.
I am doing my best to use #minimal apps, and only getting ones that are not security focused when necessary. I am not logging into Google, or any other #BigSocial/ #BigData services except when necessary.
.
My question is, are there any #SMS / #Texting apps that allow you to login on the #Web and #sync messages to your phone (even if only on the same network), and a #keyboard that has #VoiceToText that does not use Google or #Microsoft? I am currently using #SwiftKey, but only until I figure out the #T9 app I am using with the KB (HYBRID phone running Android 11).
