Even if your handmade business didn't get blown up with the twitter nonsense, even if you don't make money from what you make (or don't make much money from what you make), even if you're not good at making things - I WANT TO SEE YOUR CREATIONS

I want to see your tiny crocheted animals.
I want to see your pickled cucumbers.
I want to see your drawings of cheese.

I want to see what you make.

And fuck that guy who was complaining.

Because a lot of you are new to this conversation, here are some tips about grammar.

  • Cap the first letters of Aboriginal, Torres Strait Island, and Indigenous.

  • Always type out "Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island", don't use ATSI.

  • Don't use phrasing like "you people" or "those people" to refer to us.

  • If you're talking about a specific Aboriginal group, use the name instead of just "Aboriginal people", because our cultures are not monolithic.

You might see this as just grammar, but it's about respect.

This is going to be unpopular.

I keep seeing people say they're shocked how anti-Indigenous Australia is, and when I go look at their profiles they all have "leftist" written.

You all need to understand what this means for how your leftism is tied in to white supremacy.

If you're shocked to find out that a colonised country is racist, you haven't been listening.

If your leftist selves haven't been listening to Indigenous people on this Stolen Land, you're leaning into white supremacy.

There is a Google doc that lists gynaecologists who will perform tubal ligation (tie tubes) without asking if you have kids/your partners permission/are married etc. as long as you're old enough to consent to surgery.

It's sorted by alphabetical order by state.

If your city isn't listed, keep checking because it's constantly being updated.

So far there are entries for USA, Canada, and Australia. Europe will hopefully soon be added.

Shouting "self-care" at people who actually need "community care" is how we fail people.

Support trans women. That includes the woman from the hood. The loud one.The sexworker. The dropout. The one whose hair aint laid and outfit ain't always on point. The one with clear mental health issues. The one with nowhere to go. Not just the models, writers, and public figures.

He is taking a course on Marxist ideology.
He says, “The only real solution is to smash the system and start again.”
His thumb is caressing the most bourgeois copy of the communist manifesto that I have ever seen,
He bought it at Barnes and Noble for twenty-nine U.S. American dollars and ninety-nine cents,
Its hard cover shows a dark man with a scarved face
Waving a gigantic red flag against a fictional smoky background.
The matte finish is fucking gorgeous.
He wants to be congratulated for paying Harvard sixty thousand dollars
To teach him that the system is unfair.
He pulls his iPhone from his imported Marino wool jacket, and leaves.

What people can’t possibly tell from the footage on TV
Is that the water cannon feels like getting whipped with a burning switch.
Where I come from, they fill it with sewer water and hope that they get you in the face with your mouth open
So that the hepatitis will keep you in bed for the next protest.
What you can’t tell from Harvard square,
Is that when the tear gas bursts from nowhere to everywhere all at once,
It scrapes your insides like barbed wire, sawing at your lungs.
Tear gas is such a benign term for it,
If you have never breathed it in you would think it was a nostalgic experience.
What you can’t learn at Barnes and Noble,
Is that when they rush you, survival is to run,
I am never as fast as when the police are chasing me.
I know what happens to women in the holding cells down there and yet…
We still do it.

I inherited my communist manifesto,
It has no cover—
Because my mother ripped it off when she hid it in the dust jacket of “Don Quixote”
The day before the soldiers destroyed her apartment,
Looking for subversive propaganda.
She burned the cover, could not bring herself to burn the pages,
Hoped to God the soldiers couldn’t read,
They never found it.
So she was not killed for it, but her body bore the scars of the torture chamber,
For wanting her children to have a better life than she did,
Don’t talk to me about revolution.

I know what the price of smashing the system really is, my people already tried that.
The price of uprise is paid in blood,
And not Harvard blood.
The blood that ran through the streets of Santiago,
The blood thrown alive from Argentine helicopters into the Atlantic.

It is easy to say “revolution” from the comfort of a New England library.

It is easy to offer flesh to the cause,
When it is not yours to give.

Black activists are extremely controversial.

Native decolonizers are extremely controversial.

Kanaka Maoli nationalists are extremely controversial.

Anti-Zionists are extremely controversial.

Queer radicals are extremely controversial.

Marxists are extremely controversial.

Corporate media pointedly ignore all of them.

But those media love to cover Jordan Peterson and other reactionary hacks (including neo-Nazis). They don't provide that coverage because the subjects are controversial (see above). It happens because corporate media have an affinity for regressive ideas and a vested class interest in promoting them. By conditioning debate around spectacle, with a cast of smug and unlikable protagonists, reporters and pundits can ignore economic and racial injustice, even as they gesture at disapproval of the provocateurs they cover. (You disapprove of Peterson? Great! Maybe start ignoring him?)

Don't let reporters and pundits absolve themselves of introducing awful people to wide audiences by hiding behind sensationalism. The world has tons of controversial thinkers who are also insightful and compassionate. Arbiters of the newsworthy don't want to cover them. And they wouldn't be allowed to, anyway.

Pay attention to all that is missing from corporate media rather than assessing what they offer. The real story, as always, exists in the systematic absence of certain narratives.

I'm a disabled Indigenous queer person who exists on Jobseeker, which means almost 50% ($269/week) below the poverty line ($489/week).

After living in the same house for almost 10 years, I have to move because the people we rent from want to renovate.

It's going to cost $3990 just to move, not including the new bond and rent for the new place, cleaning costs for the old place, and all the other incidentals.

I hate asking, but please consider helping if you can - I'd be super grateful.

After living in the same house for almost 10 years, I recently had to move as the new landlords decided to renovate so they could increase the rent.

Moving has cost me over $4000, and ended up putting me almost $2500 in debt.

I didn't get rent assistance for the first 6 weeks of living here because they lost my lease copy and they're refusing to backpay it. So I started the first 6 weeks here adding over $180 a fortnight to that debt as well.

I'm in a new house with a new landlord, and am barely able to make rent at the moment, let alone cover bills and food.

I hate asking, but please consider helping if you can - I'd be super grateful.

The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary.

"In other words: Forcing employees to work in an office doesn’t benefit companies, but does harm the lives of employees — at least in the short term.

More to the point: Most companies cannot show actual monetary benefits from RTO mandates. But most employees can show actual and significant monetary costs from RTO mandates.

In essence, these kinds of mandates represent a transfer of wealth from employees that their employers don’t even benefit from."

Among my friends and chosen family we have developed a habit of asking someone if they are asking for advice or asking to be heard, instead of just slamming down advice every time someone says something.

I forget that's not a thing here.

I don't know.. I feel like this is going to be unpopular, but I'm going to say it.

I feel like not posting AltText because "I don't know how", or "I don't have the time/energy" needs to just fucking stop.

If you don't know how - learn.

If you don't have the time/energy - save the picture and post when you have the time/energy to AltText it.

It's giving businesses who whine "we didn't build a ramp because they're expensive.."

If the social model of disability is a thing (it is!) then the onus for accessibility is on able people (it is!)

Accessibility is mandatory.

Do better.

Pro Tip: Organizing spaces should be intergenerational. There should be children and elders around. Nothing good comes from a bunch of 20 - 40 year old's sitting in a room thinking they know everything. Don't operate in an echo-chamber.
