@sdw Years ago, I read a paper discussing how trends were constricting the dynamic ranges of both music and colors.

Seeing a guy living in grayscale because of Apple's fashion trends is a nice illustration of how prophetic that paper was.

I don’t particularly care what celebrities are wearing to the met gala.

But some people do.

Some people are passionate about fashion. Some people have had a shit week and just want to talk about something fun and not think about hard things for a few minutes. All of which is ok.

You can just let folks enjoy things.

@Daojoan I find things to be more enjoyable when they're not the product of the slavery the fashion industry is well known for 😅

You receive a call on your phone.
The caller says they're from your bank and they're calling about a suspected fraud.

"Oh yeah," you think. Obvious scam, right?

The caller says "I'll send you an in-app notification to prove I'm calling from your bank."

Your phone buzzes. You tap the notification This is what you see.

Still think it is a scam?

@taylorlorenz and yet again I wonder why people are still surprised by these fundamentally inevitable consequences of capitalism.
Until the priority is growth and investor's dividends stuff like this will keep happening over and over.
If we wanna fix it we need to fix the system at its base and change the core rules that drive the game, starting with all the toxicity that Reagan and Thatcher dropped on all the world.

If you think big fines work on , think again.

Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, and Microsoft generated enough revenue in the past 7 days to pay off their fines for 2023.

Taking advantage of your privacy is so lucrative, that these fines are nothing more than the cost of doing business.

Did you know Monopoly was invented by a woman named Elizabeth Magie in 1903?

Originally ‘The Landlord’s Game,’ it was designed as a protest against the big monopolists like Carnegie & Rockefeller.

But it was Charles Darrow, an unemployed salesman, who eventually sold it to Parker Brothers after playing a version.

Parker Brothers credited Monopoly with saving their company. Magie died in 1948 without recognition. Darrow became very wealthy & his legend lives on.

Imho conservatism and nationalism breed fascism, and that's been all over the places in human history even before Mussolini labelled it.
