There are MANY videos on #YouTube explaining the so-called "Monty Hall" paradox, some diving deeply into fairly complicated probability math.
The paradox is traced back to the very long-running "Let's Make a Deal" game show, hosted for many, many years by Monty Hall.
The paradox involves the prospect of staying with your choice of one of three doors that might contain the grand prize, or switching to another of the three doors once you're shown that one of the doors you didn't choose doesn't contain the prize.
While most people assume that staying with their current pick is a reasonable choice, the math says that you should actually (for best results in the long run) switch to the other available door. It's really quite a non-intuitive probability puzzle.
The irony is that Monty when asked about the paradox consistently insisted that the show never actually offered contestants the choice to switch doors, and that the paradox was actually based on a "what if" postulation not the actual procedure on the show!
"Though usually considered joke prizes, traders legally win the zonks.[21] However, after the taping of the show, any trader who had been zonked is offered a consolation prize (currently $100) instead of having to take home the actual zonk."
Based on #YouTube comments, quite a few of us refuse to watch #Draymond on #NBAonTNT. There are so many great people they could have who aren't unapologetic violent idiots. #NBA#TNT
@SloanStudio he's such a weird choice. Super unpopular among most nba fans. No one likes him except Warriors fans, and not even all of them. Like Reggie Miller, it's impossible to understand what they think his draw is.
A box office failure that gradually attained cult status (especially initially in the USSR, as it happens), is the much underrated 1985 film "Enemy Mine" starring Dennis Quaid and Louis Gossett, Jr. During an interstellar war a human soldier and a reptilian soldier of the opposing forces are stranded together on an inhospitable planet. The majority of the film consists of only those two actors -- it has often been said that it almost is a stage play in that respect until later in the plot. It just popped up free in the U.S. on #YouTube Movies and TV. I do definitely recommend it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Y58-H9JHDs
In diesem Sinne: MEETALOIDAAAARGHHHHHH 🤘 🤘 🤘#Metal#Underground https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1B5NLYxTp0
I'm always pleased to see #YouTube creators who keep churning out over a period of years a series of many nicely done, long-form videos that are obviously an immense amount of work. And they continue posting these right up to the present, even though their view counts mostly never exceed 10K on any of them. (Of course, all manner of YT trash videos accumulate 100s of 1000s or millions of views.)
These creators are clearly creating for the joy of creation alone.
In a world of largely garbage media focused entirely on the eyeball counts, it's reassuring to see that some creators are still in the sunlight.
The “free but has ads” fallacy: if I can’t afford your paid tier I certainly can’t afford to buy anything from the ads you’re blasting at me. The only ones who actually benefit from this model are ad companies themselves, not the advertisers and certainly not the end user. #enshittification#youtube
@operationpuppet
It's hilarious right?
Like YouTube is weaponizing ads, using them as pain points to "encourage" folks to pay for YT Premium.
Google has all the behavior data on their users, and could legitimately pair brands with people interested in those products.
If you had a business, why would you ever advertise on a platform that uses your ads AGAINST the viewer?
@operationpuppet the fallacy assumes that the reason the person not buying the “no ads” tier did it because they can't afford it and not because it hides the cost. (Fully agreed on the last part, still.)
Dear #YouTube, I don't want to see shorts ever. If I selected a short, that was a mistake. It means I'm currently swearing at your abysmal UI, frantically trying to make some inane babble fuck off before inevitably giving up and killing the entire app.
