Not yet 17, I disobeyed my parents and drove to the police barricades at the far end of Osage Avenue after nightfall, as close as I could get to the bombing – I needed to see it with my own two eyes. The overwhelming memory I carried away with me, though, was olfactory, and not visual: I promise you that nobody within a five-mile radius of West Philadelphia that night will ever quite be able to get the smell of that murder out of their nostrils. It’s 38 years gone by and it feels like yesterday.

> By August 29 [1921] the battle was fully underway. [Sheriff] Chafin's men, though outnumbered, had the advantage of higher positions and better weaponry. Private planes were hired to drop homemade bombs on the miners. A combination of poison gas and explosive bombs left over from World War I were dropped in several locations...

I'd heard of , but I didn't know about the aerial bombardment. Or the poison gas. JFC.

I'll be okay, I'm just sore, but I just got hit by a car on my bike because an idiot didn't know what a stop sign is or something... idk I would have asked but they just kept going as if they didn't even know they hit me and knocked me down into the road. Police were fucking useless as usual when they did absolutely nothing about it. This is an moment if I ever seen one.

Za każdym razem dostaje potężnego dysonansu poznawczego, kiedy widzę maszerujące po uczelni klasy wojskowe i policyjne w pełnym umundurowaniu.

Na publicznej uczelni wyższej.
Pały i trepy.

YO - US - At the rate your own citizens are killing yourselves off - why would you think biggest threat is a foreign invader? Your biggest threat is in your own country & supported by both NRA & GOP. Rest of us - in other countries are watching you all completely destroy yourselves & it's really sad to witness.

It's not guns - it is the fact your country is only Global North country with zero strict across board firearms restrictions regulations. That's FUCKED UP. IT'S STUPID.

dawnfry,

@KashifShah @msquebanh
I don’t think the current US police CAN be reformed. They are largely a part of generational bigotry (“police families”) and have created a work culture to match. They have no legal requirement to help people in the US. They have little to no accountability for the abuses they commit. They put training money into learning how to be more, not less, lethal. You can’t start with people who don’t value the lives of other humans and expect that they will improve if you throw money at them or give them even more discretion to be terrible. And the police union is the only one that I absolutely will not support, as it has repeatedly sheltered murderers and protected officers who should be in prison for their crimes.

The whole enforcement system needs to be reworked with very small and heavily accountable armed forces only for actual emergencies. A larger group of unarmed civilians who are qualified witnesses can deal with petty crime complaints, minor vehicle accidents, small crimes, etc. where the threat level is low and paperwork needs to be filed. They can call in help if needed, but the vast majority of police work is this kind of thing. And also give a much more active role for various government agencies to step in with assistance to tackle root causes. And create a robust low cost and free mental health system to help those who need it, instead of putting them in jail (to die in some places).

And active policing like license plate scanners connected to databases of regular people’s movements, cell phone call interceptors (stingrays) at malls and outdoor gatherings, and other major time-wasting and privacy violating technology should be stopped. Local cops don’t need facial recognition cameras at peaceful public protests or large public events, ffs!

And has been pointed out to me today, a retrained call center is vital to properly classify and describe situations before the correct people are dispatched. These are front-line workers and should be trained and treated as professionals.

Police are not and will never be your friend.

No matter how many rainbows, raised fists or whatever else 'woke' they put on their cars this week.

They are the state sanctioned arm of violence. And will support that state's desires to the 'death' (yours for protesting them).

They're there solely to keep the ruling class comfortably isolated from their wealth and power ever being able to be challenged by the masses (the 'poors').

This is a wild case, https://ij.org/case/king-v-brownback/ Without identifying themselves as police, the men began asking James questions and ultimately pinned him against their vehicle. When one of the men took James’ wallet, James believed he was being mugged, so he did what any rational person would do: He tried to escape. But when he did so, the men tackled James, choked him unconscious, and severely beat him. What the synopsis misses here too is it was soo strange that the locals called 911, the police afterward forced bystanders to delete video off their devices, and after James bit the officer that choked him unconscious in a effort to get out of the chokehold the officer in his own words "punched him as hard and as fast as I could" Incase the cops ever wonder why people dislike them, its not because nobody likes authority, that just doesn't help. Its because you don't hold yourselves accountable and yeet fuck wads like this out of the police force and into a jail cell. If I pinned someone against a car, grabbed their wallet, then beat the ever loving fuck out of them I'd be in jail for long enough for that person to forget who I was.

The only reports on when they become . If this trend continues, protestors will likely be tempted to increase , since it seems to be the only way mainstream will pay attention to them. As long as news outlets ignore/discount activism, I don't doubt people will see this as their only option to get eyes on their cause. The news is explicitly twisting the truth. Peaceful protests should be turned directly on them.
