English union - collectively - just can't do anything without tripping over itself, over and over again.

15 years of austerity.

15 years of us having to pay for the 'mistakes' of the rich.

And now it's clear, to even the 'apolitical' 'centrists', that whatever party you vote for now, you are getting even more of the same.

What a joke of a 'democracy' this is.

Please again tell me, what exactly is the point in voting, when those allowed to 'power' are all - purposefully - the same?

So if you thought that yesterday's record was alarming enough, well you can now add another 0.3C to it, to now +1.6C (2.9F) over the previous UK January record. recorded 19.9C (67.8F).

Not good at all, but also unsurprising now.

But we also know that all the usual self-appointed 'experts' will still be out saying 20C in January is 'totally normal'.

Or maybe it was a fleet of jets hovering over the Stevenson screen again.

I've no idea if 'UNRWA staff' were 'involved' with October 7th - it's certainly happened before with UN connected staff - but we first need to drill down on what 'involved' actually means (remember 'anyone in Gaza equals Hamas'), and how Israel came out with it immediately after the ICJ preliminary hearing verdict.

It didn't seem too pressing to reveal before then, but suddenly they knew about it afterwards. It feels too convenient.

btw, 'left-wing rag' The Guardian's article below doesn't mention that word once.

You may have seen Patrick Strudwick's piece on the "Tory war on LGBT rights" in the i, on New Year's Eve.

I've now posted my blog on some of the responses the political sphere gave in it, for anyone who would like to read my 'belief' on what is really going on right now.

John McDonnell is 100% right here. One of the few politicians who gets and articulates that we need radical societal change, for the 99%.

But the current Party won't do it, or even care what happens because of it.

And even if they did, in this system they wouldn't be allowed to do it, as the political class exist solely to serve the interests of the capitalist class.

And the wealthy sure don't care if the country becomes a fascist, far-right hellhole.

A large earthquake of magnitude 7.6 hit off the west coast of Japan in the past hour (near Noto City, Ishikawa Prefecture).

It's very revealing how two of the most ideologically extreme politicians who've reached power in modern history - Liz Truss and Suella Braverman - are now knives out toward Kemi Badenoch of all people, for 'not going far enough' at being anti-trans.

XLCChelt, to Russia

It's very revealing how the "we're anti-trans because we want to protect the gays" media and commentariat have hardly covered what's happening in Russia.

Hell, they could just come out and say it's been done because of the 'evil transes', 'radical gender ideology', and 'radical trans activists'.

But instead, it's been near silence.

Rather interesting in my opinion.

XLCChelt, to random

I wonder where Liz Truss got the idea and wording for her anti-trans Bill she will present this week.

Couldn't be down to being ingratiated into all of those American right-wing 'think tanks' she's gone and talked with.

So it seems I missed a row out of the yesterday, when Patrick Vallance said Dominic Cummings said Rishi said 'let them die' of Covid.

I can buy it happening. It's pretty clear making money is all the guy cares about.

But he's not unique. Politicians only exist so they can make more money and power for themselves and their donor friends.

They don't give a fuck if their 'policies' hurt the rest of us. Because that's collateral to the overall project.

XLCChelt, to Youtube

I've talked about this intersection before, but Our Changing Climate has put out an awesome primer on how won't - and more importantly can't - save us from climate change. (23:58)

Capital is now intrinsically linked to burning and extraction of fossil fuels, and never-ending consumption for 'growth'.

(As made clear by Vivek Ramaswamy at one of the Republican debates)

XLCChelt, to politics

If most politicians are fine with, or even openly rooting for, people to be killed in a foreign land, just imagine what they would do with half a chance to the people in their own.

I was going to say I'm not going to bother following the latest hospital bombing, as I'm sure it was either a Hamas/PIJ failed rocket again, or if not the ambulances were full of Hamas fighters - even the drivers, but then I've just read that is exactly what the Israeli Army are arguing.

It remains amazing how could not see their "own 9/11" coming (despite Egypt telling them), but can see one commander in a refugee camp, and now know who are riding in an ambulance from miles away.

XLCChelt, to random

It's funny that went off to to apologise for Britain's colonialism, then the very next day is watching on parade the British Army trained Kenyan Marines, who they've obviously gone over and taught to go do war with who and whatever, in what is a new form of by state power, which was gained from colonial exploration.

XLCChelt, to random

It is very funny to read that Kemi Badenoch ('Equalities' Minister still by the way) is moaning about pronouns and 'CRT' being 'distracting' and that groups and individuals should stop 'obsessing' about them, when she's one of those who does that every day! Reading from a playbook that says you must obsessively say they're 'destroying Western civilisation'.

5.3 metres – the degree of sea level rise now unavoidable from West Antarctic Ice Sheet melting ALONE – is sufficient to entirely submerge most of urban Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Dubai, and an enormous area of southern Iraq (Qatar gets off surprisingly lightly).

Are they sure they want to pump YET MORE oil?

XLCChelt,

@simon_brooke They only care about the money and power it brings them today. And maybe secretly hope they'll either be long gone from the scene, or that money and power will shield them from the retribution caused by them.

Wow it's incredible all of the Israel simps who are back in my replies right now.

So much for Mastodon being any different to Twitter.

XLCChelt, to Israel

It's interesting how forcibly displacing 1.1 million people, under threat of state violence in 24 hours to create a 'buffer zone', is now accepted as a 'defensive measure'.

And even if this is 'achieved' by them, what's to stop then doing the same to the remaining sliver of under the same 'premise'?

And I'm guessing people and governments who are now whole-heartedly supporting this, will also now be supporting doing the same to eastern as a 'buffer against NATO'?

XLCChelt,

@AdeptVeritatis You can justify why you're treating one case differently to the other all you want. Just say you want a single Israeli state, and be done with it. It's not like land isn't constantly being expropriated in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

XLCChelt,

@AdeptVeritatis You're arguing with a brick wall right now.

XLCChelt,

@AdeptVeritatis You're just writing a wall of text, that is arguing points that have never been argued.

So I watched the story on 'climate activists vs police', and you may not like climate activists for what they do.

You may think is fake.

But what if they're right?

And then even as it all comes to your backyard, the state and its protector the will still beat you down, while nations do nothing to stop breakdown, as they're all in bed with the polluters.

And this isn't just going to happen in Western .
