Wanted to check out Arc but it won't let you past the account creation screen to just try it out. This breaks the top rule of UX. Don’t stop the user from using your app.

I like the browser so much! I had to switch back to Safari for a bit and I was looking forward to get back home to Arc :)

funding agencies say NO to using for

US’ Australia’s : 'NO’ to ChatGPT for peer-review

US' and Europe's mulling it over with working groups.

Concerns:
*Privacy/Piracy “the information becomes part of its training data. ” (why I don’t chatGPT though I really hate writing)
*Error ”AI-written reviews will be error-prone"
*Bias ”against non-mainstream views”
*Boring "lack … creativity “

So this new browser by https://thebrowser.company .

Some good ideas, like pinned tabs. (Will soon be copied I would think.)

Some concerning: lots of data apparently gets sent to Google, unless you turn if off/

Some features I would miss from Firefox, particularly containers. I have walled off some companies (like Meta) and use them to easily access multiple accounts at others (like Mastodon.social)

But the biggest question is: what's their business model? They have venture investment.

Does anyone have a link to What’s new in today? Arc seems to think that pointing to only a video where they talk about what’s new is okay. My brain does not think this.

wzbudził we mnie nowe pokłady kreatywności.

Climate-crisis deniers sought for exclusive Florida residence. Private ark essential

First they denied it was a thing, then they denied it was happening, now they are looking for a way out. Ironic that this is in Florida - those Arcs really will be needed, but I am sure the Governor will hang on to the glugging end.. Why not go in fast, sell your real estate and go straight for an Arc? $295M will get you a nice bit of plastic and sails.

I've installed the #Arc #Browser for #Windows and immediately have some mixed feelings. I'm very conservative on tabs and the tab-sidebar feels like a massive waste of space... Despite that, and the disappointment of Chromium engine, it looks and works quite ok... :bulbasaurroll:

Saying good bye to browser. After several months of trying to use it, it just doesn’t mesh with my brain. The only feature I liked as the slim border, which made presenting a site in a zoom call quite nice. Otherwise, Arc and are gone. and remain in. It appears that the Firefox made Multi-account containers add-on will do roughly what Arc profiles did. Bon chance Arc!

Come on. This push to summarize all webpages and written content with is ridiculous.

See this example from Search - in what world is this an adequate summary for an 8,000+ word article that takes 43 minutes to read?

The amount of detail, specificity, narrative, and actual arguments that get lost is mind-boggling.

Everything is just… flattened to the most basic and bare-bones facts.

Every unique part of that piece, every voice, personality - stripped away.

I tried #Arc Browser as my default browser for several months. I even tried to talk a few co-workers into doing the same. I absolutely love the way it manages Spaces, and no other browser comes close to this kind of reasonable, real-world tab management, not by light years.

Unfortunately, I’ve had to give up. I’m switching back to Firefox. A few issues were starting to feel like death by a thousand papercuts. Here are my reasons for giving up on Arc:

#ArcSearch #BrowseForMe feature is all very well but like all #AI, it's just making stuff up!

I got it to find out information about me, and it made up speaking engagements that never happened!

I've been using Arc for almost a year…and recently made it my default browser. There's much to like, including an innovative UI, support for Profiles and a clever "Air Traffic Control" feature.

Arc is now available to everyone free of charge: https://arc.net/

p.s. I keep most of my bookmarks in the excellent @anybox app, which makes it very easy to switch browsers.
