Currently reading @pluralistic 's book Homeland. I read Little Brother when it first came out. So this feels like reconnecting with old friends, and then seeing them victimized all over again

@bookstodon Another really good graphic nonfiction book I've read recently, and recommend, is WE HEREBY REFUSE, regarding the Japanese-Americans forced into internment camps in WWII.

The story addresses a common victim-blaming response to the plight of others: "Why didn't they fight back?" It's almost always the wrong question, even though indeed, they did fight back. Victim-blaming is a pernicious permission structure, allowing us not to care about terrible events that happen to other people.

This is a story rarely heard. It needs to be heard, especially as some leaders are openly advocating for detention camps for those who look like they "might be here illegally." #books #bookstodon #BookReview #BooksWorthReading #books2024 #Internment_camps

One of my favorite SF authors Christopher Priest (1943-2024) passed away yesterday. https://www.ninaallan.co.uk/?p=6855

I place Inverted World (1974) among my top 5 SF novels. And my many voyages amongst his metafictional Dream Archipelago sequence always return laden with delights.

Pierwsza moja polecajka to "Bankowość centralna. Ewolucja i przyszłość" Andrzeja Sławińskiego.

Kiedy dziura budżetowa prowadzi do wzrostu inflacji?
Jakie były przyczyny Wielkiej Inflacji lat 70.? I wiele innych.

Excited to have finished reading Crime and Punishment by #Dostoyevsky . Was always intimidated by the sheer length but stuck with it and found it quite satisfying. E-Book version let me increase the font and read on my phone in the middle of the night. So much more worthwhile than mindless scrolling. Lots to digest and will revisit it again sometime in the future. #BooksofMastodon #Reading #BooksWorthReading #Literature

@bookstodon I am making a very long list of suggested book pairings, and I wondered if you all had any interest in them? These are read-alikes specifically in the sense of "If you liked this book, you 𝙢𝙞𝙜𝙝𝙩 also like this other book." I plan to alphabetize them by the titles of the first books in the pairings, so you can easily look for your favorites.

My criteria are my own (I even match up traditional books with graphic novels or short story collections) and it's super subjective, just by definition. But, you would be able to add your own book pairings as well. Books can be alike in (sub) genre, style, subject, thematic elements, even in ways that are not readily apparent.

@lgbtqbookstodon Chen Chen's new book of contemporary poetry encapsulates his experiences as a Queer Asian American. The poems are brilliant, and often as funny as they are clever. His talent is something no one can teach. Highly recommend: YOUR EMERGENCY CONTACT HAS EXPERIENCED AN EMERGENCY. @bookstodon

Hello, I'm Elora Alderwood. I'm in the process of writing my first book. Heatwave, an erotic romance, will hopefully be published later this year. Social media is not my strength but I'm working on it 😅 I'm hoping to connect with other writers from all genres as well as readers and look forward to contributing to this community. I follow back all writers and readers. No politics please

Druga moja polecajka to mała książka o wielkich ideach czyli "Dlaczego pracujemy" Barry'ego Schwartz'a.
