I have curated this list of public domain folk tale collections from around the world on Wikisource, and I am contemplating turning this into #BookWyrm lists - which would include creating entries for the books at OpenLibrary.
However, I am not sure how granular these lists should be. Should I arrange them by continent or by country or what?
#Bookwyrm question: Is there some markup for referring to a specific book, instead of a specific user?
That is to say, if you are commenting on a particular book and want to link to or recommend another book, it would be fairly neat to simply add a markup-link to that other book within the local Bookwyrm library instead of posting an URL.
@adamchainz ok, I missed your goal to be beginners friendly. 👍
Just to clarify, I proposed them because they're both ActivityPub services based on Django. 😀
Takahẽ is a micro blogging (like Mastodon) and Bookwyrm is a book service (like Goodreads) 🧩
Ladies, if you would like to gain access to this library: I'm still single! I just thought I should throw this out there. 😁
More seriously, organizing my collection of physical books was long overdue, and #Bookwyrm made a useful tool for this purpose. My excuse for collecting so many books in the first place (apart from the pleasure of reading itself, of course) was that I wanted to use them as a research tool for my assorted projects - but this doesn't work if I keep losing track of what books I actually have. And now this should no longer be a problem.
I'm not sure yet how much of my ebook collection (which is several times larger) I will integrate into my Bookwyrm list. Time will tell, I suppose...
Filippone...
Nelle immagini in scuro gattininja in chiaro filippone.

Book review #5 for 2024 is Mick Herron's Slow Horses. I've learned that the TV adaptation is very popular. A wonderful cast of characters. Started slow but ended with increasing intensity. I liked it. ☕☕☕ #spynovel#Bookwyrm#bookstodon#books#bookreview#nickherron@bookstodon
I am looking for the most privacy friendly way to buy ebooks.
Every shop and platform I've looked at would index and sell my purchase and a lot of other information.
I can get my ebooks in different ways but I explicitly want to pay the author for their work without me and my behavior ending up a resell product for which ever platform I use to complete this purchase.
I frequently get recommended books by lots of people, but it's hard for me to keep track of all these recommendations.
So I've decided that, from now on, I'll simply put them on a separate #BookWyrm shelf. And as a bonus, that means they'll get integrated into the #Fediverse !
I have never made it to #goodreads and its #fediverse alternative #bookwyrm is still underdeveloped. Esp. in terms of user interaction and books catalogue.
Any suggestions? I'm after tracking, occasional short review and recommendation from other users.
1/ One part of the #Fediverse which I think is still criminally underutilized is #BookWyrm . I, too, created an account months ago, only to ignore it for a long time. But now I'm finally making strides in indexing my library, and I want to share what I have learned about making this process as smoothly as possible.
First, of course, you will need your own BookWyrm account - the following website can help you with choosing an appropriate instance (as with Mastodon and other Fediverse platforms, there are multiple instances to choose from).
Basically, you will need to search for your BookWyrm profile name in your Mastodon search bar. This will display your posts and changes of your BookWyrm in Mastodon, and thus makes them shareable.
I don't think#BookWyrm has a useful app interface yet, although I could be mistaken.
@weirdwriter the current #BookWyrm release is 0.6.6. v0.7.1 is pre release and has had problems and the developers have advised not to upgrade yet. Although some instances have anyway.
